HONEY HEARTS by Zlatica Dinjar On the Christmas occasion, honey hearts were used to decorate the Christmas tree as the familiy didn't have the money to buy all the luxurious Christmas decorations. The ribbon we used to put honey hearts on branches was the colour of Croatian national flag: red-white-blue. INGREDIENTS: 50 dkg flour 12 dkg sugar 10 g (1/2 tablespoon) salt 10 dkg fat (pork fat) ½ teaspoon baking powder 1 egg 1 egg yolk 2-3 tablespoon of honey 1 teaspoon ground lemon zest 1 teaspoon of cinnamon 1 teaspoon (2-3 ground) cloves PREPARATION: Melt honey and fat on low heat. Add all other ingredients. Shake out od floured surface or bord and knead. Add more honey if needed. Roll, cut out a heart-shaped mold.
