THE WATER CYCLE CONTENT AREA: SCIENCE GRADE LEVEL: 4 SUMMARY: THE PURPOSE OF THIS INSTRUCTIONAL POWERPOINT IS TO HELP STUDENTS LEARN AND UNDERSTAND THE MAJOR COMPONENTS OF THE WATER CYCLE. LEARNING OBJECTIVE: CONTENT STANDARD: SPI 0407.8.1 IDENTIFY THE BASIC FEATURES OF THE WATER CYCLE AND DESCRIBE THEIR IMPORTANCE TO LIFE ON EARTH. ACCOMPLISHMENT:

LET’S GET WET!

UP IT GOES EVAPORATION WARMTH FROM THE SUN CAUSES WATER FROM LAKES, STREAMS, ICE, AND SOILS TO TURN INTO WATER VAPOR. THE REST RUNS OFF THE LAND OR SOAKS INTO THE GROUND TO BECOME GROUND WATER.

WHERE DOES THE WATER GO?

TRANSPIRATION HAPPENS WHEN PLANTS GIVE OFF WATER VAPOR THROUGH TINY PORES IN THEIR LEAVES. THIS WATER VAPOR EVAPORATES INTO THE AIR AND IS STORED IN THE ATMOSPHERE.

DO PLANTS SWEAT?

CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF… Condensation Water vapor is water in gas form that is held in the air until it changes back to water. The water can change into fine droplets by "condensing" in the air, and we get clouds.

LET’S MAKE A CLOUD

“RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY” PRECIPITATION ANY TYPE OF WATER THAT FALLS TO THE EARTH LIKE SNOW, HAIL, MIST, OR RAIN. WATER RUNS OFF THE LAND INTO LAKES, STREAMS, WETLANDS OR RIVERS (SURFACE WATER) OR SOAKS RIGHT INTO THE GROUND.

WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE

SOAK IT UP INFILTRATION WATER SOAKS INTO THE SOIL FROM THE GROUND LEVEL. GROUND WATER KEEPS MOVING DOWN INTO THE SOIL. THE VERY TOP OF THIS LAYER IS CALLED THE WATER TABLE.
