Characters Annemarie As the protagonist, Annemarie is best friends with Ellen, who she protects and defends. Ellen A Jew, Ellen is being protected or hid for the majority of the story. Nazi Soldiers As the antagonists, the soldiers are the main recurring problem in the story.

Important Events 1) Annemarie and Ellen discover the Jews must be hidden. 2) Ellen pretends to be Annemarie’s sister for a week. 3) Annemarie travels to her Uncle Henrik’s house with her mother, sister and Ellen, for an unknown reason. 4) Ellen and many other Jews hide at Uncle Henrik’s house until morning, when they finally escape.

Opinions It could’ve been more descriptive. The author did a good job with the suspense. The friendship was relatable. Certain deaths were unnecessary.
