5 Reauthorization of the Centers of Excellence (COE) Program COEs: – improve recruitment/performance – facilitate research on minority health issues – train students/faculty to provide healthcare to minority individuals. Affordable Care Act (ACA)-reauthorized $50 million FY 2010-2015 2005: 34 COEs Today: 20 COEs FY 2005 - $33.6 million FY 2006 - 64.7% cut to $11.9 million FY 2008 - $12.773 million FY 2010 Omnibus -$24.6 million, $4 million increase over FY 2009.

6 Reauthorization of Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP) HCOPS: – Funding to encourage minority, economically/academically disadvantaged students to pursue health professions. Reauthorized ACA - $51 million FY 2011-2014 2005:74 HCOPs Today: 35 HCOPs FY 2005 - $35.6 million FY 2006 - $4 million FY 2008 -$9.825 million FY 2010 Omnibus - $22.1 million, an increase of $3 million over FY 2009.

9 Funding in FY 2012 Temporary Debt Ceiling Agreement Increase of $400 billion to meet short term financial obligations Labor-HHS: $2 billion under FY 2011 12-member Bipartisan, Bicameral Congressional Committee address long-term issues of revenue, entitlement, and spending reform $1.5 trillion in additional deficit reduction by November 23rd, 2011.
