FY 2014 Federal Landscape Sequestration –Budget Control Act –$1.2 trillion in cuts over 10 years (2012-2021) –Non-Defense Cuts: 8.4% cut across the board $54.7 billion in 2013 –Defense Cuts: 7.5 % cut $54.7 billion in 2013 Includes Defense-related research funding

FY 2014 Federal Landscape Immediate Impacts of Sequestration –Pell Grants are EXEMPT –Cuts to research programs (NSF, NOAA, etc.) –Examples of Impact on AK (Harkin Report - LHHS) $933,150 cut to Improving Teacher Quality State Grants –984 fewer teachers in AK, serving 16,029 students, receive professional development $33,224 cut to Federal Work Study Program –15 fewer students in AK will receive financial assistance

FY 2014 Federal Landscape Sequestration Issues –1 year of cuts squeezed into 9 months –Delay in first/second quarter grant processes likely –Will there be any programs/agencies that get hurt less or more by sequestration
