3  Why is personality so important?  * Knowing and understanding your personality and others’ personalities helps us get along better  * Civility- Mutual respect  What is your personality type?  How can you self-assess?  What is the culture of your work environment?

4  The Masks We Wear: What is your mask?  Worn for performance, entertainment, disguise, concealment, or protection  Describe with a partner a time where you had to put on a mask in a work situation

5  Art Activity:  Create a mask  Portray “How others see you” on the front (outside)  Then… on the reverse side… How you really feel

7  Objectives:  To enable participants to increase their self- awareness and self-acceptance  To enable participants to visually recreate a representation of their personality  To gain perspective that will enable participants to use their gained self-awareness in their work environments

8  Self-Assessment  Carl Jung  Major task in acquiring self knowledge is understanding the relationship between who one is and how one presents oneself to the world  Jung wrote extensively about the persona and the various ways it manifests itself  Persona: Latin for “mask”  Refers to the practical and successful personality that we use most of the time in the workplace and in social relationships

9 The Shadow: The dark side of our personalities Features that we learn to disguise and repress Anger, greed, envy, jealousy… Includes both repressed, instinctual feelings and untapped potential

10  The Masks We Wear: Questions & Take Away  What are we learning about ourselves?  What are we learning about others?  What does this mean when working with others?  How can we use this when we return to our daily assignments?

11  Section 4:  To remember the traditional model of services in our field  To learn about the Good Life model  To compare the two models  Mental Models help us “draw conclusions” about the best way to help others!!!

12  Traditional Models include:  Managing/ controlling through manipulation and avoiding negative consequences  Also, success means the reduction of maladaptive, or negative behaviors  The focus is on what is “wrong” or what “needs to be fixed.”

13  Good Life Model  Based on enriching others’ lives. Increase the quality of someone’s life, and they will respond in kind!  Focus is on the positive: unconditional positive regard  Be intentional. Be mindful.  Develop relationships with others, both with the individuals you serve, as well as with fellow team members.  Helping others have a Good Life ! 

17  Good Life Ally: Definition:  One who continually works on improving their personal tools  One who is intentional about the following:  Self assessment  Their role of helping others experience the Good Life!  Intentional about beginning the day with this mindset:  “I have the tools to make a difference!”

18  Identifying an Ally’s tools in 8 Key Areas:  Our thoughts about others  Our eyes  Our ears  Our words  Our heart/ feelings  Our touch  Our feet  Our time

19  Section 5 Activity: Your Role as an Ally  Words of Encouragement:  What are some words of encouragement that you have for others?  Share encouragement for your teammate’s toolboxes!

20  What is your take-away from this activity?  How did your cards make you feel?  How can your role as an Ally help others?  What is the most important tool for you personally as an Ally?

23  Positive Relationships Supports Thriving  What is Success Planning?  Focus on what is possible: floodlight vision  Focus on physical, emotional & mental well being of the person  Reflect on the science of trauma & emotional well-being

24  The Fundamentals of Supports Thriving  The magic ingredient is Positive Relationships  Understand Trauma, the effect it has on the brain, and how that effects relationships

25  The Fundamentals of Supportive Relationships  Specifically using our “tools” to aid our team to be their very best:  Our thoughts about others  Our eyes  Our ears  Our words  Our heart/ feelings  Our touch  Our feet  Our time  What are your personal strengths? Which tools are easiest for you to use?

26  Activity: Challenges and Solutions:  Each table will get a challenging situation  What is your solution, as an Ally?  How can other team members support the Ally with this solution?  What tools will you use to make this happen?

32  For RESPECT…..  Commit to relationships  Commit to taking responsibilities  Know that ALL PEOPLE have hopes and dreams!  Value “Quality of Life”!

33  Must Haves activity:  Someone has an issue, given to one team member by us….  The team negotiates together how to best address this situation as Allies  And- how can the individual best address this issue as a fellow Ally?  How do you handle stressful situations as a committed Ally?
