11 BEING AN ACTIVE LISTENER Open ended questions Encourage the help seeker to do most of the talking. See things from her point of view.

12 BEING AN ACTIVE LISTENER Explore the situation. Identify feelings and values. Draw out undercurrents.

13 BEING AN ACTIVE LISTENER Check back to make sure you have understood. Normalize and validate. Be aware of your own feelings, but keep the focus on the help seeker.
