The Healing Oils of the Bible
Oils for healing, cleansing, and holy anointing are mentioned more than 500 times in the Bible. Aloes, Cassia, Frankincense, Galbanum, Hyssop, Balm, Spikenard, Cedarwood, Myrrh, and many more. Why did the Wisemen bring Jesus, Mary and Joseph the gift of Frankincense and Myrrh? What were they used for 2000 years ago? What are these precious oils used for today? Modern Science finds some of them to be as effective as antibiotics and to promote overall health, vitality and longevity. The Healing Oils of the Bible “And they went out…and they anointed with oil many that were sick and healed them.” Mark 6:12-13 1

What is an Essential Oil?
Natural aromatic compounds in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Nature’s Living Essence! 70 times more potent than dried herbs: ONE drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea! For those of you who are not familiar with essential oils, let me tell you about these powerful drops of plant extract. Essential oils the natural aromatic compounds found in plants. They are usually steam distilled , but some like citrus oils are cold pressed from rinds. This picture shows you a Peppermint leaf on the left. On the right you see a magnification of the leaves with the small oil sacks on the leaf surface. To create Peppermint essential oil, they harvest thousands and thousands of pounds of leaves and compress them in a vat and steam is run through the plant material. The water and vapors move through a piping system and at the end of the distillery process you get 2 things – floral water for perfuming, and essential oil to tap off for health use. Essential oils are the LIVE essence of the plant. Unlike herbs which are dried, essential oils carry all of the active chemical constituents that the actual plant has itself. This is why they are so therapeutically powerful. Think about what a plant has to do in nature to survive? It has to be able to fight off the elements, disease, contamination by insects, trampling and more! These same characteristics are available to us in essential oils as live, plant extractions. dōTERRA Essential oils are HIGHLY CONCENTRATED---1 drop of dōTERRA Peppermint oil is the same as 28 cups of Peppermint tea! Analgesic Antibiotic Antibacterial Antidepressant Antifungal Anti-Inflammatory Antioxidant Anti-parasitic Antiseptic Antispasmodic Antiviral Astringent Decongestant Digestive Disinfectant Diuretic Expectorant Immune System Strengthener Sedative/Relaxant Stimulant Essential oils have been used for 1,000’s of years for medicinal purposes. Each oil has a multitude of chemical constituents that provide medicinal value, typically 5 – 8 different things it can do to help in healing. This is a “laundry list” of just some of the therapeutic qualities essential oils hold. Most all oils are antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic-----so you can be comfortable passing along the bottle and trying it as you are naturally protected by its content. In our presentation you’ll see some of these listed on each oil I’m going to share with you. Each oil has MANY of these properties. For instance…Peppermint is: - an Analgesic for pain relief - Anti depressant for the psyche - Anti-inflammatory for muscles and joints - Anti-spasmodic for muscle contractions - Decongestant for lungs - Digestive for the stomach - Expectorant for the respiratory system - Stimulant for the mind Essential Oils Have Been Used for 1,000’s of Years! 4

ONLY dōTERRA = Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade™ Essential Oil Quality is CRITICAL! PURE—Every batch GCMS tested, 100% natural, no artificial ingredients, fragrances, or fillers SAFE—Highest quality sourcing POTENT—Standardized active compounds 3rd PARTY TESTED So what is a CERTIFIED PURE THERAPEUTIC GRADE oil or CPTG? dōTERRA guarantees that each bottle of their oils is completely PURE, SAFE and POTENT They perform two sets of laboratory tests on both the sample batch and the final batch of each oil they distribute. These tests are performed by an independent laboratory. The tests are called GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY and MASS SPECTROMETRY. The Gas Chromatography test tells them exactly what constituents are in the oil. The Mass Spectrometry tells them if anything was added to the oil such as any plants with pesticides, the wrong plant, or even fillers a distiller would have added. Any oil that fails to meet the dōTERRA templated standards, is rejected!! This is SOOOOOO important and what makes dōTERRA unique. In fact, they stamp all their oils with this CPTG code to help you be assured that these oils are SAFE and have only the compounds they are intended to have. dōTERRA offers a natural healthcare alternative….therapeutic grade essential oils. Their essential oils are a wonderful compliment to your current healthy lifestyle choices like eating right, exercising, restful sleep and more. What I also love about essential oils is that in this 15 ml bottle (hold one up)….there are 250 drops of oil. Since we only use 2-5 drops per application, that means you have as much as 125 “doses” in one small bottle. I think you’ll discover what a cost-effective and powerful, natural health tool dōTERRA’s essential oils can offer as we share them with you. Also note that dōTERRA’s oils are undiluted, and therefore VERY concentrated and strong drops does the same thing therapeutically as 10 of another brand! Highest Quality Essential Oils in the World 7

3 Simple and Safe Models for Use
Aromatic Diffusion Purify rooms or change emotion Diffuser Drop in hands Drop on tissue Spray on a surface or nearby Just open/smell from bottle Topical Application Apply directly to skin or in a carrier oil Internal Use In a capsule, under the tongue, in water or honey There are 3 ways we can use essential oils. The first is by Aromatically Diffusing oils. Let me start by saying that we typically use anywhere from 2 – 5 drops of an oil per application. So no matter what method you use, that is the quantity you typically use. Like the unique dōTERRA Lotus Diffuser I have running over here (point), we can diffuse oils into the air to benefit everyone who is breathing in the area. This particular diffuser is fantastic because it has a small device inside it that vibrates at 10,000 vibrations a minute, creating this misting effect. We all know oil and water don’t mix, so as the water molecules are being fractionated into mist, the essential oil is riding on the mist into tiny particles that we can take in through our nose to effect our entire system. You don’t have to have a diffuser like this to take in oils aromatically though. You can put a drop on your hand and cup it around your nose and inhale. You can put a few drops on a kleenex or cotton ball and put it in your car vent. You can add it to a spray bottle and squirt it into the air. You can simply open the bottle and in hale the beautiful scents. Whichever method you choose---when you inhale an essential oil, your body takes the scent in through your olfactory system. This creates change in the limbic system which is thought to be the primary part of our body where emotion is generated. So, we use oils to effect MOOD or EMOTION and because we’re taking oils in through our lungs when we breathe, they effect our RESPIRATORY system. The second way we use essential oils is by applying them TOPICALLY. This is how most people are familiar with oils or scents. We can put a few drops of an essential oil into a base carrier oil or lotion and apply it to our skin or feet. Many of these oils we can apply “neat” or undiluted directly to the area of concern. We use oils topically for both the local effect ---like aching feet, a headache, or sore muscles. But once we apply the oil to our tissue, the body begins to move the therapeutic value throughout our system and we therefore effect the entire body system in time. The third way to use oils is INTERNALLY. Tonight we are serving you LEMON WATER….which is one of the ways you can take in the powerful therapeutic effects of essential oils. Just a drop in a glass of water and you’re getting all the value of hydration and antioxidant protection in one….plus it tastes good! You can put a few drops of essential oil in a vegetable capsule (like this one) that you get at the health food store. You can put drops right under your tongue Add them to water, any beverage. The reason we take oils internally is to target the internal organs such as our DIGESTIVE system, our MOUTH, our THROAT, or organs such as the LIVER and our UROGENTITAL TRACT. Oils taken internally will have a rapid effect as they hit our blood stream quickly. 8

Oil of Joy/Oil of Gladness
God made our noses to be wired differently than our other four senses. It carries molecules directly into the emotional center of the brain where memories & emotions are stored. Elevation (Joyful Blend) contains: Lavandin,Tangerine, Elemi, Lemon Myrtle, Melissa, YlangYlang, Osmanthus, Sandalwood

Our Amazing Cells! Our bodies have 100 trillion cells
Each cell has 6 gigabytes of memory (one person’s cells contain more memory than all the computers of the world combined!) These 100 trillion cells must work together well for our bodies to function properly. How cells communicate: 1. Nervous system – electrical pulses 2. Hormones – called Lingan’s (messages sent from brain thru courier system). Each lingan contains a key that will only open the cell to which it’s carrying a message for = The cells Receptor Site These receptor sites can become blocked (unhealthy diet, pharmaceuticals, toxins in our bodies…) Without clean receptor sites, cells cannot communicate, and the body malfunctions resulting in sickness.
11
God’s Amazing Essential Oils
Because of the tiny molecular structure of the components of an essential oil, they are extremely concentrated. On drop contains approx. 40 million-trillion molecules! (4 with 19 zeros after it!) 40,000,000,000,000,000,000 We have 100-trillion cells Therefore 1 drop of essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our bodies with 40,000 molecules. Considering it only takes one molecule of the right kind to open a Receptor Site and communicate with the DNA to alter cellular function, you can see why even one drop can have profound effects on the body, brain, and emotions.
12
Quick Mention of “The Big Triple Punch” - PMS
A major aspect responsible for the therapeutic and healing ability familiar to essential oil users Phenylpropanoids and Phenols – Cleans the receptor sites in our cells (along with alcohols, ketones and aldehydes). Sesquiterpenes – come into the cell and erase/delete all the bad information. Monoterpenes – Help to reprogram cells and re-establish cell to it’s healthy state. These 3 classes of chemical components may be why essential oils sometimes affect a healing that is virtually instant and also permanent.
13
Interesting Things to Ponder…
Fragrances of essential oils were in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 1:11-13 Types of oils plants make: Essential Oils and Fatty Oils The Biblical meaning of “anoint” is the Hebrew word “masach” which is to “rub or massage.” Very similar to the English word “massage”. Psalm 23 & Exodus 30:22-25 – Sacred Anointing Oil The original healers in Bible-times were priests who often did their healing in temples. Leviticus 8: 1,2 & 10-12 Interesting point about Holy Anointing Oil (Cleaning the instruments in the temple)

The amazing gifts of Frankincense & Myrrh
The Christmas Story: Matthew 2:1-12 The amazing gifts of Frankincense & Myrrh
15
The Gift of Frankincense
Frankincense was valued more than gold during the ancient times. Frankincense symbolizes divinity; it was one of the three gifts given to Jesus at his birth. Frankincense was used to anoint the newborn sons of kings and priests, which helps to explain why it was brought to baby Jesus by the Magi. Frankincense was once greatly valued throughout the Middle East, from Rome to India. It was very expensive and a gift having a wonderful fragrance. It was used for a variety of purposes such as incense (Ex. 30:34), medical treatment, and perfume (Song of Solomon 3:6; 4:14). We discover from the Bible that Frankincense was used in worship. Frankincense was a Holy Anointing Oil, a cure-all. It was thought to assist one in the transition of death, used for embalming and perfume.

17
MYRRH (Commiphora myrrha)
“I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, and aloes, and cinnamon” (Proverbs 7:17). Myrrh is first mentioned in the Bible in Gen. 37:25, where the Ishmaelite caravan carried Joseph to slavery in Egypt. And When Jacob sent his sons into Egypt for food he told them to take along some myrrh as a gift for the man in charge (Gen 43:11).
18
The Gift of Myrrh Myrrh was an extremely valuable commodity during biblical times and was imported from India and Arabia. Liquid myrrh was used in the making of the Holy Anointing oil for the anointing of the priests and the articles of the Tabernacle. More Ancient Uses: Pregnant mothers anointed themselves for protection against infectious diseases Used after childbirth to prevent or remove abdominal stretch marks. Customarily used on umbilical cords of newborns to protect from infection, which symbolically is meant to cut off generational curses. * It may have been for all of these uses that Myrrh was brought to Mary and Baby Jesus.
19
MYRRH (Commiphora myrrha)
Action: Anti-infectious, antiviral, parasitic (worms), hormone-like, anti-inflammatory, soothes skin conditions, anti-hyperthyroid, and supports immune system. Traditional Indications: Bronchitis, diarrhea, dysentery, hyperthyroidism, stretch marks, thrush, ulcers, vaginal thrush and viral hepatitis. Historical Uses: This oil may help asthma, athlete’s foot, candida, coughs, eczema, digestion, fungal infection, gingivitis, gum infections, hemorrhoids, mouth ulcers, ringworm, and sore throats, skin conditions (chapped and cracked), wounds, and wrinkles.
20
SANDLEWOOD/ALOES (Santalum album)
“And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, Joseph and Nicodemus wrapped it with spices in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.” (John 19:39-40). Many botanists believe that aloes was derived from sandalwood, one of the oldest incenses known to man. Its 4,000-year history includes use as a carved wood as well as distillation for its sweet-, woody-, and fruity-scented oil. The great quantity of myrrh and aloes used in preparing Christ’s body for burial was indicative of respect.
21
SANDLEWOOD/ALOES (Santalum album)
Action: Sandalwood is high in sesquiterpenes that have been researched in Europe for their ability to stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain. The pineal gland is responsible for releasing melatonin, a powerful antioxidant that enhances deep sleep. Sandalwood is similar to Frankincense oil in its support of nerves and circulation. Indications: Bronchitis (chronic), herpes, cystitis, and skin tumors. Uses: May help with cystitis and urinary tract infections. It may also be beneficial for acne, depression, pulmonary infections, menstrual problems, nervous tension, and skin infection. It may help dry or dehydrated skin. Emotional Uses: May unlock emotional trauma from DNA of cells, oxygenate the pineal and pituitary glands, thus improving attitude.
22
CASSIA “All thy garments smell of myrrh, and aloes, and cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad” (Psalm 45:8).
23
CASSIA (Cinnamomum cassia)
Two of the oldest known spices in the world are cinnamon and cassia. It was an ingredient in the holy anointing oil and the incense that was burned daily in the temple. While its aroma is similar to cinnamon, cassia is chemically and physically quite different. Action: Antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal. Traditional Uses: Immune system builder. The British have used this oil specifically for dyspepsia or colic with nausea. In Chinese medicine it is used particularly for vascular disorders. Cassia oil is among the most antiseptic of essential oils.
24
CINNAMON Cinnamon comes from the inner bark layers of a tropical evergreen tree that is predominantly found in Sri Lanka. In the United States, most of what we know as cinnamon comes from the bark of the Cassia tree, and is not as sweet as real cinnamon.
25
CINNAMON Ancient Uses: Holy Anointing Oils. Perfume
Modern Uses: Antimicrobial and cleansing. The combination of powerful compounds in cinnamon oil make it one of the most powerful antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and antifungal oils of all! In lab tests it had been proven as effective or better than several antibiotics. Historical Use: Has been applied to several tropical diseases, typhoid, and can regulate blood sugar. Applications: Diffuse, topically, orally and as incense.
26
CYPRESS (Mediterranean Cypress)
"He hewest him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest" (Isaiah 44:14). The cypress tree is renowned for its durability. The sturdy cypress doors of St. Peter's in Rome, for example, show no signs of decay, even after 1,200 years! Some Bible scholars believe that cypress may be the "gopher wood" used to build Noah's Ark.
27
CYPRESS Action: Improves circulation and supports the nerves and intestines. Anti-infectious, antibacterial, anti-microbial (causative agent of tuberculosis), and strengthens blood of capillaries. Traditional Indications: Arthritis, bronchitis, circulation, cramps, hemorrhoids, insomnia, intestinal parasites, menopausal problems, menstrual pin, pancreas insufficiencies, pulmonary infections, rheumatism, spasms, throat problems, varicose veins, and fluid retention. Historical Use: This oil may be beneficial for asthma, strengthening blood capillary walls, reducing cellulite, circulatory system, strengthening connective tissue, coughs, edema, improving energy, gallbladder, bleeding gums, hemorrhaging, laryngitis, liver disorders, muscular cramps, nervous tension, nose bleeds, and ovarian cysts. It is outstanding when used in skin care, lessening scar tissue. Emotional Use: Cypress influences, strengthens, and helps ease the feeling of loss. It creates a feeling of security, grounding, and helps heal emotional trauma.
