Unit 2, Day 1 Copy the following vocabulary words: 1.Determination- a quality that makes you continue trying to do or achieve something that is difficult. 2.Perseverance- the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult. 3.Survive- to remain alive; to continue to live. 4.Foreshadow- to give a hint of something that has not yet happened. 5.Hatchet- a small ax that has a short handle.

Unit 2, Day 2 Warm-up: Write each sentence using the correct form of the verb in parentheses. Then underline the compound subjects once and the compound predicates twice. 1.Grace and Erin (is, are) twins. 2.Either Brad or Zak (feed, feeds) and (walks, walk) the dogs. 3.Both whales and dolphins (breathes, breath) air. 4.The teacher or the children (clean, cleans) the board. 5.Alex (writes, write) the paragraph and (draws, draw) the pictures.

Unit 2, Day 3 Warm-up: Copy the sentences. Underline the subjects once and the predicates twice. Some sentences may have compound subjects and/or compound predicates. 1.Food and dishes filled the tables. 2.Hot dogs and hamburgers sizzled on the grill. 3.They left the party and headed home. 4.The cat opened its mouth and yawned. 5.Alicia and Consuelo went to the store and bought milk.

Read Chapters 1 & 2 Foreshadowing: a suggestion of something that has not yet happened. What are some examples of foreshadowing from the text today? Whose point of view is the story told from? This novel is narrated in the third person; however, the narrator conveys all of Brian Robeson's thoughts and feelings through the events in the novel.
