rhetorical question a question asked solely to produce an effect or to make an assertion and not to elicit a reply How many times do I have to tell you to turn that off? Who do I have to kill to get a ticket around here?

alliteration A rhetorical device that repeats the same consonant sound or letter beginning several words in sequence. Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers… Lots of libraries lost money in the crash.

analogy A kind of extended metaphor or long simile in which a comparison is made between two things in order to develop a line of reasoning.

euphemism the substitution of a mild, indirect, or vague expression for one thought to be offensive, harsh, or blunt. I heard he kicked the bucket. As I got older I began to get a little thin on top. He let go a long butt burp. My dad likes to read the newspaper while sitting on the throne.
