Its not actually not used in it but rather used to explain how the trick works. Otherwise it’s very difficult to explain the tricks with numbers (the number may tend to get confusing after sometime). People might not know that you are using a algebra trick on them at first but if the person is smart enough, it will very soon become clear later (unless the trick is really a good one which might sometimes even involve studying how people think)

We are going to “guess” the birthday of someone Only need to tell us one number with your birth date, birth month and a few of the other number mixed into one. We chose this trick because it is quite interesting and it unfortunately landed on the fifth page of the write-up after adding some pictures and therefore had to be removed from the write-up. Don’t come and have too much comments on the trick for us, we are not that creative yet to invent a trick when we are still a bit confused by algebra. Taken from http://www.lifesmith.com/mathfun.html

1.Take the month of your birth. Example. 1 for Jan and 12 for Dec 2.Times 5 3.Add 6 4.Times 4 5.Add 9 6.Times 5 7.Add the day you are born on 8.Now tell us the number you got

1.Let the month be m. 2.4(5m+6) =20m+24 3.5(20m+24+9) =100m+165 4.100m will put the month right in front. 5.The day that is added lands behind the month in place of the 2 zeros. 6.After that the extra 165 is removed without telling you. 7.So you get a number with the first or first two digits as the month and the last two digits as the day
