UGLY FRUIT
2
Ugly Fruit The ugly fruit was discovered growing wild in a pasture at the Trout Hall Estate in Jamaica in 1917. It is still grown there today.
3
Ugly Fruit Ugly fruit is a variety of tangelo thought to be a hybrid between a grapefruit, an orange & a tangerine.
4
Ugly Fruit The fruit’s name comes from its unsightly appearance. It has a rough, wrinkled, greenish yellow skin, wrapped loosely around the orange pulpy fruit inside. The shape is between that of a pear and orange.
5
Ugly Fruit The fruits varied coloration makes it difficult to tell when it is ripe. The light green blemishes turn orange when it reaches peak ripeness.
6
Ugly Fruit The ugly fruit is slightly larger than a grapefruit with fewer seeds. The flesh is very juicy with the sweetness of a tangerine rather than the bitterness of the grapefruit.
7
Ugly Fruit Ugly fruit is grown under the brand names Ugli or Uniq Fruit.
8
Ugly Fruit Ugly fruit is eaten like a tangerine, peeling & sectioning. Some like to remove the skin from the segments. It is also eaten in salads or juiced to make a drink. It is an excellent source of Vitamin C.
