WHAT DOES THE DEPARTMENT EXPECT?
• Plan and achieve life goals: apply various life skills as evidence of an ability - Types of goals: short-term, medium and long-term; steps in planning and goal-setting, problem-solving skills, perseverance and persistence - Important life goals and prioritising: family, marriage, parenting, career choices and relationships - Relationship between personal values, choices and goal-setting • Relationships and their influence on own well-being: different types with different people/groups and their changing nature - Relationships that contribute or are detrimental to well-being: rights and responsibilities in relationships, social and cultural views that influence and/or affect relationships, qualities sought in different relationships and individuality in relationships - Impact of the media on values and beliefs about relationships

TYPE OF GOALS REMEMBER A GOAL IS NOT A WISH OR DESIRE BUT SOMETHING THAT YOU HAVE THE ABILITY AND THE DRIVE TO ACHIEVE. GOALS ARE USEFUL BECAUSE: THEY GIVE YOU DIRECTION THEY HELP YOU TO TAKE CHARGE OF THE FUTURE THEY ARE PERSONAL, UNIQUE AND SPECIAL SKILLS THAT CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE GOALS: PROBLEM-SOLVING, DECISION MAKING, SELF MANAGEMENT TIME MANAGEMENT, REFLECTION, EVALUATION

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GOALS
THERE ARE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF GOALS: SHORT TERM GOALS – THEY ARE ACHIEVED IN LESS THAN A YEAR, EG. WEEKS OR MONTHS MEDIUM TERM GOALS – THEY ARE ACHIEVED BETWEEN ONE AND THREE YEARS LONG TERM GOALS – LIFE GOALS THAT YOU AIM TO ACHIEVE IN MORE THAN THREE YEARS REMEMBER: SHORT TERM AND MEDIUM TERM GOALS ARE USUALLY MADE TO ACHIEVE A LONG TERM GOAL IN FUTURE

STEPS IN PLANNING AND GOAL SETTING
THE FIRST STEP IN PLANNING YOUR GOALS IS WRITING THEM DOWN ON PAPER. MAKE SURE YOUR GOAL IS SMART- SPESIFIC, MEASURABLE, ACHIEVABLE, REALISTIC, TIMELY OR TIME MANAGEMENT. SET UP A ACTION PLAN TO SET UP YOUR GOAL DO IT! CARRY OUT YOUR ACTION PLAN EVALUATE IF YOU HAVE ACHIEVED YOUR GOAL

GOALS ARE NOT EASY TO ACHIEVE, YOU MAY FACE MANY OBSTACLES AND CHALLENGES- PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS NB!! LOOK AT THE FOLLOWING STEPS FOR PROBLEM SOLVING: MAKE A TABLE – PROBLEMS AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS EXPLAIN/ DEFINE THE PROBLEM GATHER INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROBLEM LIST AS MANY SOLUTIONS AS POSSIBLE FORMULATE THE CONSEQUENCES OF EACH SOLUTION CHOOSE THE BEST SOLUTION FOR YOUR SITUATION

PERSEVERANCE- THE DETERMINATION TO KEEP TRYING TO DO SOMETHING DIFFICULT PERSISTENCE – THE DETERMINATION TO CONTINUE TO DO SOMETHING YOUR KEY MOTTO SHOULD BE: NEVER GIVE UP ALWAYS – APPLY YOU PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS - PERSEVERE, PERSIST AND BE DETERMINED OR STRONG MINDED AS YOU KEEP ON TRYING

MOST PEOPLE WANT: TO LIVE HAPPY, SUCCESSFUL, MEANINGFUL LIVES LIFE GOALS ARE RELATED TO: CAREER CHOICES, FAMILY, MARRIAGE AND PARENTING HOW TO PRIORITISE YOUR LIFE GOALS DECIDE WHICH GOALS ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT FOR NOW – WHERE YOU ARE CURRENTLY NUMBER YOUR GOALS IN THE ORDER OF IMPORTANCE

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONAL VALUES, CHOICES AND GOAL – SETTING
VALUES – THE PRINCIPLES OR RULES THAT YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE BY – THEY INFLUENCE THE WAY YOUY BEHAVE AND THINK. VALUES HELP YOU TO SET YOUR GOAL HOW ARE VALUES FORMED? LIFE EXPERIENCE, THE ENVIRONMENT THAT YOU ARE IN, YOUR SCHOOL, YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY , YOUR INTERESTS

THE VALUES THAT THE CONSTITUTION SUPPORT ARE GENERAL VALUES THAT EVERY SOUTH AFRICAN SHOULD UPHOLD THERE ARE TEN VALUES THAT THE CONSTITUATION SUPPORTS: DEMOCRACY, SOCIAL JUSTICE, EQUITY, EQUALITY, NON- RACISM, NON-SEXISM, UBUNTU, AN OPEN SOCIETY, ACCOUNTABILITY, THE RULE OF LAW, RESPECT AND RECONCILLIATION

RELATIONSHIPS AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON YOUR WELL-BEING
WELL-BEING AND RELATIONSHIPS WELL-BEING – TO BE HAPPY, HEALTHY AND HAVE A GOOD QUALITY OF LIFE GOOD RELATIONSHIPS – POSTITIVE WELL-BEING BAD RELATIONSHIPS – BAD INFLUENCE ON YOUR WELL- BEING – LEADS TO POOR SELF ESTEEM RELATIONSHIPS – YOUR LINKS, CONNECTIONS OR ASSOCIATIONS WITH OTHER PEOPLE THEY INCLUDE: YOUR FRIENDSHIPS, FAMILY TIES, SCHOOL. RELATIONSHIPS CHANGE – THEY DON’T STAY THE SAME

RELATING TO OTHER PEOPLE AND CONNECTING WITH OTHERS – MAKES YOU FEEL HAPPY AND CONTENT YOU RELATE TO DIFFERENT PEOPLE IN DIFFERENT WAYS – THINK ABOUT A RELATIONSHIP WITH A ELDER VS. A RELATIONSHIP WITH A FRIEND TYPES OF RELATIONSHIPS WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE OR GROUPS FAMILY – RELATED TO YOU IN SOME WAY – WHERE YOU GET THE MOST LOVE AND SUPPORT FRIENDS – SOMENONE YOU KNOW WELL, LIKE, TRUST AND RESPECT, WHO SUPPORTS YOU. GOOD FRIENDS = GOOD EFFECT ON WELL-BEING CASUAL – OR INFORMAL – NOT CLOSE BUT GET ALONG WELL FORMAL – WITH PEOPLE WHO ARE USUALLY IN A SENIOR POSISTION EG. WITH TEACHER OR BOSS ROMANTIC – CLOSE RELATIONSHIP BASED ON LOVE – YOU CAN BE YOURSELF P

CHANGING RELATIONSHIPS
EACH RELATIONSHIP IS DIFFERENT AS YOU GROW OLDER RELATIONSHIPS MIGHT CHANGE RELATIONSHIPS THAT CONTRIBUTE OR ARE HARMFUL TO WELL-BEING IF THE RELATIONSHIP HAS MORE NEGATIVES THAN POSITIVES ASK YOURSELF: HOW IS THIS RELATIONSHIP CONTRIBUTING TO MY WELL-BEING HOW AM I PROMOTING THE WELL-BEING OF THE OTHER PERSON IN THIS RELATIONSHIP ? YOUR ANSWER WILL HELP YOU DETERMINE WETHER YOU SHOULD STAY IN THE RELATIONSHIP OR LEAVE
