Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade Who European countries and Africa What Buying and selling of Africans as slaves to Europeans and their colonies Where Most African slaves came from the west coast of Africa When Late 1400s to 1807 (roughly 300 years) Why As plantations in the Americas grew a demand for slavery also grew. How Africans were captured or sold into slavery and chained to ships. After a 10 week journey across the Atlantic Ocean, Africans were sold at markets in the Americas. Europeans brought slaves to the Americas, the Americas provided Europeans with raw materials, and Europeans provided African leaders with goods such as firearms, tobacco, cloth, and iron. This was known as the Triangular Trade.
