II. Life in the south A.The South was divided over slavery 1.- 2.1/3 of South's population were slaves B.Rebellions such as the one led by Nat Turner occurred because of the harsh conditions slaves faced on Plantations

Missouri Compromise A.The Nation was arguing over Missouri being admitted as a slave/or free state B.Maine also wanted to be admitted as state, breaking from Massachusetts 1.Clay suggested that Maine be admitted as a free state and Missouri a slave state 2.They also called for a ban on slavery north of the parallel 36 30’ in Louis.
