By coming together in a group Congress knows that the issues affects many people, not just the few.
Rallies and protests often gains media attention, putting pressure on the legislation to act
Informs other people who may not know about the issue, or motivates other people to investigate that issue

Lets the representative know how the voters feel about issues and what issues they want addressed
After only three letters about a particular issue, those concerns are brought directly to the politician
Because letters are coming from constituents and voters , that politician is more inclined to pay attention to a letter
People can do it from the comfort of their own home and without ridicule
