Service Learning Service-learning is a credit-bearing, educational experience in which students: 1) participate in an organized service activity that meets identified on- and off-campus community needs and 2) reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility (Committee Minutes, January 25, 2001).

Cheersport As a Valdosta State University Cheerleader, my team and I have to raise money to keep our program running. One weekend every year we travel to Atlanta to work the world’s largest cheerleading competition. I worked in the warm up room helping teams start their practice time before they compete. I worked 20 hours this one weekend and had a lot of fun helping many teams from all over the country.

VSU Tennis This year I helped support the VSU Tennis team by purchasing a t-shirt to help the team raise money for new equipment. This was fun because I have a classmate who is on the tennis team.

Reconstruction Some of the VSU cheerleaders and I helped take apart a cheerleading gym and move the equipment to a new gym to set it up. This consisted of rolling 20 cheerleading mats, taking a part a spring floor, loading all the parts on to trailers, and then setting it all back up at a new location.
