What is it? ◦ A group of people with a common goal work together to come to a “consensus” about an unresolved issue ◦ Unanimous agreement or majority rule

Advantages Input from more than one individual can opens up multiple possible courses of action An individual often cannot process as much information as a group Group members can bring unique knowledge and skills to the decision making process

Disadvantages Frequently takes longer than for an individual to make a decision Discussions can get heated when multiple experts are involved Pressure to agree can outweigh the importance of finding the “best solution”

Group members try to minimize conflict to reach a consensus without critically testing and analyzing ideas during group decision making.
