1 Forgiveness and Discerning Our Bitter Roots
Teaching By Paul Kaldrovics Based on Book by Art Mathias Biblical Foundations of Freedom: Destroying Satan’s Lies With God’s Truth This is the Introduction Forgiveness lesson for this series. God wants us to become familiar with this book called Biblical Foundations of Freedom: Destroying Satan’s Lies with God’s Truth by Art Mathias. We will learn about the following: Accusing Spirits and a Prayer of Release

2 Forgiveness God’s Way Christians Must Meet 2 Conditions to Receive Forgiveness First – We must forgive others We are to ask the Father to forgive us our sins in the same way we forgive those that have sinned against us Our forgiveness is directly tied to our forgiving others Mathew 6: “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. God has set conditions on forgiveness based on this scripture. In the Lord’s prayer from Matthew 6 it says at the end “…And fogive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.”

3 Forgiveness God’s Way Christians Must Meet 2 Conditions to Receive Forgiveness Second – We must ask God to forgive us If we do not confess our sins and forgive ourselves then we are not forgiven Then the guilt, shame, anger, regret, sadness, hatred, bitterness is still in our memory and in our lives If we allow a root of bitterness to take hold then it prevents us from receiving God’s forgiveness I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Under certain circumstances God will not forgive because His holiness prevents Him from doing so. Our past, present and future sin are not automatically forgiven since we need to confess them.

4 Effects of Bitter Roots
Unresolved Bitterness If we bury a root of bitterness then it grows Our lives become so filled with pain that we believe we are unable to forgive 7 Spirits that Surround Bitterness Unforgiveness, resentment Retaliation, anger Hatred, violence, murder Hebrews 12: Pursue peace with all men, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord: looking diligently lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled; lest there be any fornicator or profane person like Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birthright. For you know that afterward, when he wanted to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for repentance, though he sought it diligently with tears. Satan and his demons favorite weapon against us is making us feel that we are unable to forgive. Unforgiveness causes us to lose our peace by playing a record of wrongs in our mind, creating constant turmoil. If we have no peace then we will not have holiness and we become spiritually blind, unable to see God. We then lose our ability to discern and the ability to experience the grace of God. Eventually we will have no love or care for others or ourselves and we fall into self pity. This is a root of bitterness that is surrounded by the 7 spirits that keep us there without forgiveness.

5 Results of Unforgiveness
First Our debt will be reinstated and we will not receive forgiveness Second We will be turned over to the tormentors Bitterness can bring torment to our minds, our emotions, and our bodies Third Our bitter memories control our lives Mathew 18: ”Then his master, after he had called him, said to him, `You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. `Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?' And his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.'' Jesus tells the parable of the debtor to a rich man. The debtor owed the rich man about 15 million dollars, but could not repay him. He begged forgiveness of the debt and received it from the rich man. The debtor then turned and threw into prison a man who owed him about twelve dollars and had asked for forgiveness that was not granted. The rich man learned of the debtor’s foul deed – Scripture above starts here! If we harbor bitterness then we will be tormented by demons since we give them the right to do so through our unforgiveness. The local church bodies lack forgiveness which is a major problem. Then bitterness and unforgiveness stifle the work of the church limiting the spread and effectiveness of the Gospel of the Kingdom of God through His son Jesus Christ.

6 Process of Forgiveness
God’s Principle to Loosen and Bind We are to loose or let go of unforgiveness This means all the elements of bitterness Unforgiveness, resentment, retaliation, anger, hatred, violence and murder We are to bind to the situation God’s law of forgiveness, grace and mercy This cancels our bitterroot judgment Do you have any debts to cancel? Think of one person who has hurt you a lot Matthew18:18 "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “ When we forgive someone of the things they have done against us, we cancel the bitterroot judgment against them. This then releases in the heavens God’s principles of forgiveness, grace and mercy instead of Satan’s principles of bitterness. Our relationship with the person forgiven then changes and we can reconcile with them.

7 Forgiveness Prayer Activation
In the name of Jesus, and as an act of my free will, I purpose and choose to forgive (name of person) from my heart for (what they did) In the name of the Lord Jesus, I cancel all (name) debts or obligations to me. Lord Jesus, forgive me for my bitterness towards (name). Pass out Forgiveness Prayer Activation sheet so we can identify one person and what they did for us to then pray this prayer together. At the end listen to what the Holy Spirit says about this situation and write it down for later prayers.

8 Forgiveness Prayer In the name of Jesus, I break and cancel Satan’s power over me in this memory, and the resulting pain. I hate the devil. In the name of Jesus, I command that all the tormentors that have been assigned to me because of my unforgiveness to leave me now. In the name of Jesus, I command the bitterness to go.

9 Forgiveness Prayer Holy Spirit come into my heart, and heal me of this pain and this hurt. Holy Spirit, please tell me your truth in this situation. Pause quietly and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Listen carefully for what He has to say about this situation Take home this Forgiveness Prayer sheet and continue to pray for others who have hurt you or offended you and be set FREE!
