Safety on the Streets Only change money in banks or exchange bureaus Don’t travel alone at night Don’t use short cuts, narrow alleys or poorly lit streets Avoid public demonstrations Keep a low profile & avoid loud conversations or arguments Do not discuss travel plans or other personal matters with strangers Avoid scam artists selling you something at bargain prices Only use licence taxi cabs

4. Beware of pickpockets They often have an accomplice who will:  Jostle you  Ask you for directions or the time  Point to something spilt on your clothing  Or distract you by creating a disturbance Walk with your shoulder bag away from the curb Don’t act lost – try and ask for directions only from individuals in authority

5. Drink Wisely Don’t leave your drink unattended The golden rule is to drink sensibly and among friends who you trust Alcohol lowers your inhibitions and sense of judgement which can make you very vulnerable to thieves and trouble. If you get involved with illegal drugs abroad – the penalties may be severe and the insurance policy will not cover you for illness

Electrical Safety Electricity supplies can vary from 100volts and 240 volts Never touch electrical equipment with wet hands Never touch light switches if they are cracked or show signs of damage Do not use a socket which looks damaged or has part or all of its cover missing Never use mains powered electrical appliances in a bathroom Take with you the correct travel adaptor

7. Fire Procedures 1.Leave the building immediately via the nearest exit and go to the assembly point 2.Do not run or use lifts 3.Do not take any unnecessary risks 4.Do not return until you have been instructed that it is safe When you hear the fire alarm

13. Noise Don’t stand too close to speaker Always try and use ear plugs Once your hearing is damaged, it remains damaged!

14. Lifting technique:  Lift in stages 1.Think before doing anything 2.Stand as close to the load as possible, spread your feet about shoulder width apart 3.Bend your knees and keep your back in a natural line 4.The middle of the load should be level with your waist 5.Hold the object close to your body 6.Make sure the load does not obstruct your view 7.When you set the load down, lower it first to your knees and then to the floor, keeping feet apart and back straight 8.Remember not to twist or jerk the body, as this may cause injury.
