2 Whether you are leaving your home to go to work, or leaving school to get to a youth centre, we can all take steps to make sure we are safe when we leave one door and arrive at the door of our destination.

3 Here are some top tips to help you keep safe when traveling from.

4 Personal Safety Tips Make sure you know where you are going and how you are going to get there. Ensure you know how to get home, ESPECIALLY when in an unfamiliar place. Make sure your phone has plenty of charge BEFORE you leave. Let someone know where you are going, and when you plan to arrive and return.

5 Personal Safety Tips Try and plan your journey when walking, using well-lit, busy areas. This can lessen the likelihood of dangerous situations arising. If anything does happen, you can get help more easily, or alert others to the danger.

6 Personal Safety Tips Take in your surroundings. Notice who else is around. Make sure you know where you are going before setting out, so you don’t have to look at maps, GPS or road signs when you travel.

7 Personal Safety Tips Trust your instincts: If you feel uncomfortable, find a safe, alternative route.

8 Personal Safety Tips Smart phones, tablets, iPods, jewellery and laptops are all desirable items. Keep them safe, and out of sight. Why not invest in a zip-up, or fastening bag, to keep your valuables safe!

9 Personal Safety Tips You can only hail a taxi if it has the orange taxi sign on it. Only book a minicab through a licenced firm. When using taxi’s it’s always best to pre-book. It is illegal for any taxi or minicab to tout for business. Have the telephone number of a reputable taxi firm to hand.

10 Personal Safety Tips Personal safety alarms are designed to shock and disorientate an attacker. They can help to make you feel more confident. There are many different types, so you can get one to suit you.

11 Personal Safety Tips Wearing headphones when walking alone could distract you from your surroundings, and you may not see or hear trouble approaching. Remember: The sooner you are aware of potential danger the easier it is to avoid it.
