I Profits & ethics « Freedom » from « Libertarianism » Morelize the (ultra)capitalism ? « Corporate Social Responsability » and « Stakeholders » Principle responsability « Technologies self-sufficiency » « Next » generations Different responsabilities « depending on… » The Care Measure the actions according on the « response » its impacts on « others’weakness »
6
The question is : Is it fair to make profits ? yes, it could! The Roots in the libertarianism theory. Philosophical & Political theory Profits & Ethics
7
What does this theory defend ? « A society is fair (just) when the principle of freedom is respected ! » There are other ways : Utilitarism – happyness Marxism – equality Rawls ‘ theory – both freedom & equality Habermas - acting communition Honneth - recognition
8
Freedom for libertarians? We can do all what we want to do! BUT in A coherent legal system : Property of the body Fair transactions of the Properties Properties origine In this case, profits are « fair »!
9
Could the « Freedom » idea had split to Ultracapitalism ? YES!
10
Ultracapitalime ? « The one and only compagnies reponsability is profitability » CSQS 25,000 poeple are starving each day!!!
11
II Is it possible to increase morality in the ultracapitalism ? « Corporate Social Responsability » and « Stakeholders » Principle responsability « Technologies self-sufficiency » « Next » generations Different responsabilities « depending on… » The Care Measure the actions according on the « response » its impacts on « others’weakness »
12
They try to do… This recent point of view (raising of moral standart) derives largely from the developpement of The Corporate Social Responsability concept. The CSR fondation – values coming from the bible and the Christian heritage (some decades ago – late 1960s and early 1970s)
13
Corporate social responsability Definition 1 Corporate conscience Corporate citizenship Social performanence Sustainable responsible business A voluntary process with the aim to embrace responsability for all the company’s actions CSR =
14
Defintition 2 encourage a positive impact through its actitivities on all stakeholders Environment consumers communities membres of the public sphere ✪ employees (including old workers) CSR =
15
Is it actually a progress ? Implementation of this process = a important cost Weak or bad return on investment (in terms of profits) CSR process is an « image » to distract consumers and employees from ethical questions posed by the company core operations.
16
Judgement ? If real implication in CSR – there are real befenits for all stakeholders! If CSR = communication aliby and marketing outline – No moral inprovement Nobody is able to clearly judge this paradoxal situation In my philosopher’s opinion – NO real progress!
17
III Principle responsability « Technologies self-sufficiency » « Next » generations Different responsabilities « depending on… » The Care Measure the actions according to the « response » its impacts on « others’weakness »
18
Another and best path…
19
THE Principle responsability H. Jonas Warning!!! Technologies are more and more independant from the human being We have to pay attention to the next generations We haven’t the same level of responsability Our responsability is To mainten our links with the nature To anticipate the impacts on the unborn generations To increase morality all around our local situation
20
IV The Care Measure the actions according on (the « response ») its impacts on « others’weakness »
21
« Care » Comes from Nurses’ fields Feminist studies « stay by the bedside » Ethical field = measure the actions according to its impacts on « others’weakness » C. Gilligan
22
Measure the actions according to (the « response ») its impacts on « others’weakness » It could become a ethical criterium and a new way to solidarity and non-profit based society As an individual In your community live In your fight for a fair society
23
Profits & ethics o Profits are « valid » on an ethical point of view! o But ultracapitalism kills Human beings Is it possible to increase morality ultracapitalism by way of CSR ? o No! It is actually often a screen or an aliby Principle responsability o If we want to preserve The Human Being & the nature… o we have to apply this Principle in all our actionsHOW? With The Care attitude! o Measuring the actions according to the response in its impacts on the « others’weakness » o In all relationships – individual, groups & companies - society
24
We can try it… for the three last IP’(happy)days Thank you Merci
