Student’s Knowledge –How much do the cadets already know? –Do not cover old material, except as revision Your knowledge –Ensure your knowledge is accurate and up-to-date

6 722 (Chivenor) Squadron ATC ACP 42 Staff Cadet Interview Additional Training 3 Lesson Presentation Introduction –Interest (Develop an interest in the subject) –Need (Explain why they need to know this) –Title (The title of the lesson) –Revise (Recap on previous lesson) –Objectives (State what will be taught in the lesson) –Scope (Length of lesson and how topic is covered) –Handout (Is there a handout or must notes be taken?) Don’t give out any handouts until the end of the lesson! Remembered by acronym “INTROSH”

10 722 (Chivenor) Squadron ATC ACP 42 Staff Cadet Interview Additional Training 3 Student Participation Practical Exercise –Practical experience using theory just taught Questions –“Pose, Pause, Pounce” Pose using an interrogative (What; when; how) Pause to allow the question to sink in Pounce on a particular cadet to answer –Be concise with questions –Distribute questions evenly –Do not ask overly difficult or easy questions –Avoid “closed” questions (Yes/No answers)

12 722 (Chivenor) Squadron ATC ACP 42 Staff Cadet Interview Additional Training 3 Classroom Management Environment –Lighting Is the room sufficiently light/dark? –Heating/ventilation Comfortable, but not too comfortable –Room Layout Instructor & all instructional aids can be seen and/or heard by all cadets –Instructional area layout Instructor has room for teaching/demonstrations All training materials are easily accessible to teacher

Find out why and try to get them interested –‘Star Pupil’ Knows the subject. Acknowledge ability, but use sparingly for questions –‘Know-it-all’ Think they know it all, but don’t actually know it. Give hard questions and demand good answers

If genuine, give extra help If not genuine, give more activity/questions to encourage participation –‘Sleepy’ Not participating and not concentrating Give more involvement Make sure your subject delivery is not to blame
