+ Review: (Do not write this) ¿Cómo se dice…en español? I like to dance. Me gusta bailar. I don’t like to swim. No me gusta nadar. I like to play sports and write stories. Me gusta practicar deportes y escribir cuentos.

+ Negatives in English vs. Spanish: English is extremely strict when it comes to negation. In English we only use one negative per sentence. For example: I don’t like to do anything. NOT I don’t like to do nothing. I never want to do anything. NOT I never want to do nothing. Spanish is not like English in this way. In Spanish, the more negatives are used in a sentence, the more accurate it is. For example: No me gusta hacer nada nunca. I never like to do anything.
6
+ Negations: In Spanish, we make sentences negative by putting “no” in front of the verb or expression. For example: No me gusta cantar. (I do not like to sing) When answering a question negatively in Spanish, use no twice. The first one answers “NO” to the question. The second “NO” says the “NOT” in English. For example: ¿ Te gusta dibujar? (Do you like to draw?) No, no me gusta dibujar. (No, I do not like to draw)
7
+ Types of Negations: ¿ Te gusta dibujar? (Do you like to draw?) No, no me gusta dibujar. (No, I do not like to draw) No, no me gusta nada dibujar. (No, I don’t like to draw at all) ¿ Te gusta dibujar y estudiar? No, no me gusta ni dibujar ni estudiar. (No, I don’t like neither to draw nor to study)
8
+ Agreement or disagreement: To agree with what a person likes, you would say: A mí también. (Me too) To agree with what a person dislikes, you would say: A mí tampoco. (Me neither)
9
+ Well, I do like / do not like… To disagree with the statement, you would say: Pues, a mí me gusta ______________. Pues, a mí no me gusta__________________. For example: No me gusta nada tocar la guitarra. Pues, a mí me gusta tocar la guitarra.
10
+ Try it: (do not write this) Answer with agreement (me too, me neither, or well I do / do not like…): Me gusta mucho bailar. No me gusta nada cantar. Me gusta ver la tele. No me gusta esquiar.
