Justification for involvement Who are the leaders? Who are the idealogues? What and who are the road blocks? Cost analysis---selling point to involve agencies

Community input Community education and planning The goal of the day would be to: create connections, engage the players, build a local strategy, and perhaps educate through experienced presenters.

Potential Funders Explore & List possible funders E.g. government grants Ontario Trillium Foundation Private foundations Private business Write a letter of introduction Briefly outline funding request Enquire about priorities & process

Matching Funders Questions to ask Funder’s interests Organization’s profile/grant history What is their budget and funds generally allocated What are the deadlines When is their year-end Match funder to need, based on: funds needed Interests/priorities History promotion

Other considerations Time commitments needed Application deadlines; where no specific date—what is funding year Staff/volunteers needed Past successful fundraisers Community calendar (to avoid conflicts in timing) Expertise available

Proposal writing Have “Prospectus” available Summarize the project up front Describe your organization/ sponsoring agency and Committee Define the problem you are addressing Develop work plan/specific activities Define target audience What will be the expected impact Budget Other funding (including in-kind) How will the project be evaluated? Letters of support, Annual Report, Audited Financial statements, list of Board members (if appropriate)
