3. 14 th Amendment Section 1 of the amendment mainly relates to prejudice: All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

4. Accusation January 1, 1923 in Rosewood; Fannie Taylor said a black man came in to her house and assaulted her while her husband was at work. A search was sent out for the black assaulter. Police interrogated a black man named Sam Carter who claimed to of drive the suspect in his horse and wagon. The men found now evidence of the fugitive in the wagon, so they tortured Carter and hung him. This happened 4 more times Rosewood became a town of dead black men White police would come into the town and peoples houses and completely abuse and steal from them. Became more than a rape case

5. African Americans in the North During the Great Depression it was very difficult for most people to find jobs, and people would do anything to get one. Women dressed up as men Most wealthy white men wanted all the African Americans fired to provide more job opportunities for themselves. They thought the African Americans were invading “their” land.

Great Depression vs. Prejudice Effected every group of Americans although no “group” was harder hit than African Americans 1932 more than ½ blacks out of work Lynching's declined to 8 (1932) and surged to 28 (1933) Blacks liked Roosevelt Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802, stating that all persons, regardless of race, creed, color, or national origin, would be allowed to participate fully in the defense of the United States.
