Complete one of the following assignments. Your written response will be evaluated based on the overall insight and quality of the essay you produce. Keep in mind that this assignment is not required though all are invited to participate in this assignment that is designed to extend your knowledge and understanding of the authors we are studying. SUPPORTING A CLAIM Choose two essays that offer opposing viewpoints on “the possibilities and limits of forgiveness” and examine the evidence each person uses to support his/her claim. In your essay be sure to address each author’s claim and how each supports that claim. To what extent is their method(s) of persuasion similar to and different from each other? Which argument is stronger? How? Why? This essay should be at least two pages double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point. Be sure to cite your references within the paper. Salinger, the man and his career, further research Salinger’s life through an examination of at least two reputable sources (You must find sources that extend beyond the ones covered in class). Then write a literary essay that addresses the extent to which the writer’s life experiences shaped his writing of The Catcher in the Rye.
