Shrek: A King Giving Up The Kingdom For Friendship Message by Troy Pomeroy with Chad McComas And adapted by Kathryn Lamberton

He’d rather live in comfortable surroundings with his friends. Friendships are so important for a good life. The touching story-line in Shrek the Third is about a person next in line for the kingship, yet he has no desire to have the job.

Friendships are more important than position or power. These never lead to true satisfaction …rather they only disappoint and leave one empty. The following message about friendship reminds us of some old stories of the power of friends and it points us to the only true friend we can count on.

Sometimes friends care for us and look after us. ● They take us on their journeys and adventures and put our needs and the honor of our friendship above their own needs. ● And if we’re really lucky, they may bail us out of trouble we’ve gotten ourselves into.

Other times, good friends empathize with our trouble and bring comfort to us. ● This is what friends do when they hear about all of your troubles.

What is Friendship?  Friendship – is when you know and understand someone. You trust them and care for them. You can count on that person.

Who are your Friends? Who are your Friends?  Friends are people that you can trust.  Friends are loyal. You can count on them to help you.  Friends are people you know very well.  Friends sometimes will tell you secrets because they trust you.

Losing a Friend  If you lie to a friend you may lose them as a friend.  Telling a friend’s secret may cause you to lose a friend.  Not helping a friend when they need you can also cause you to lose them as a friend.

Making Friends  To make a friend, just ask.  Invite someone to join you in a game, at lunch, or just to talk.

Friends can also share such deep love, commitment, and loyalty toward each other that they refuse to be separated. ● How lucky you are to have a friend that is always by your side!
