The Dice Game Roll the die six times and keep track of what number you get each roll. Each roll of the die is one incidence of sexual activity. 1in 6 chance of getting pregnant. Anyone roll a 6? You just got pregnant –How does it feel to be a teen parent? A 6 the first time? Got pregnant the first time having sex. –How does it feel to be a teen parent after having sex for the first time? More than one 6? Got pregnant more than once. –How does it feel to be a parent of more than one child?

Teen Pregnancy Facts Possible Health Risks for a Teen Mother: -Premature labor-Hemorrhage -Prolonged labor-Death -Miscarriage -Toxemia -High blood pressure-Anemia –Approximately 25 % of the babies born to teenage mothers are born prematurely –*Many others have low birth weight

Teen Pregnancy Facts Possible Health Risks to the Baby of a Teen Mother: -Underdeveloped organs -Bleeding in the brain -Respiratory distress syndrome -Low birth weight 40 times more likely that normal weight babies to die with in the first month of life!!

Pregnancy Vocabulary Fertilization- the joining of an egg cell and sperm cell Embryo- the rapidly dividing mass of cells formed in the first three months Placenta- an organ that provides nourishment to the embryo by absorbing nutrients and oxygen from the mother’s bloodstream. Umbilical cord- a thick cord where nutrients and oxygen are passed from the placenta to the embryo

Vocab. Con’t Amniotic sac- a protective covering filled with fluid that helps cushion the embryo from jolts and bumps. Fetus- term for the embryo from the third month until birth. Purpose is to gain weight.
