Local Government authorities regulating development should use this information to establish requirements for developing around transmission pipelines.

Understand stakeholder viewpoints and concerns. They will vary greatly within a community. Listen to all and respect their opinions.

15. 0901-15015.15 Federal Agency Update – January 2009 Benefits Transportation Energy– 97% supplied by petroleum. Heating – 22% consumed annually comes from natural gas. Electricity – 19% is generated from over 1,700 power plants that use natural gas, most of which is delivered by pipelines.

16. 0901-15015.16 Federal Agency Update – January 2009 Risks Safety –PHSMA data shows there were 17 pipeline-related fatalities between 2003-2007. –The majority involved pipeline employees, pipeline contractors, and third-party excavators. Only 3 involved the general public. –Even one fatality is not acceptable.
