4 Mythology & History Main O Jovial O JUPITER was the Roman version of Zeus. Another name for Jupiter was Jove. There used to be a strong belief that people were born under planets, as in astrology. People born under Jupiter, or Jove, were said to be merry, good-humored people. JOVIAL therefore means “merry,” and “good- humored.”
