February 2006Colby College ITS The Message Header To: –Email address of the recipient –Multiple addresses and nicknames must be separated by commas From: –Your email address Automatically filled in Can be manually over-written Subject: –Topic of the email Cc: –Copied on the message - “Carbon Copy” Bcc: –Copied on the message but “hidden” from recipient - “Blind Carbon Copy” –Can also be used to put a copy of the message in one or more of your mailboxes –Right-click in the body of the message to display the drop-down list Attached: –Lists any attached files Automatically listed as you attach files

February 2006Colby College ITS Setting Mail Priority Outgoing –Default is Normal –Select level from priority dropdown list –To default to sender’s priority on replies: Tools>Options>Reply>”Copy original’s priority…” Incoming –Select a message –Select level from priority dropdown list –Message will display new priority

February 2006Colby College ITS Requesting a Return Receipt Create your message Click the Return Receipt icon When the recipient opens and then closes the message –Dialog box appears

February 2006Colby College ITS Replying to a Return Receipt Now –Reply immediately Later –Close the message without sending a notification Never –Cancel notification request without replying Cancel –Dismiss request while message is on the screen Note: Each time you open the message and then close it (or if you try to delete it), the notification request will appear until you either reply or select “Never”

February 2006Colby College ITS Inserting Objects To insert a picture –Move cursor where you want the picture –Edit > Insert > Picture –Browse to the picture –Click Open To insert a horizontal line –Move cursor where you want the line –Edit > Insert > Horizontal Line –A horizontal rule is inserted immediately above
