2 November 2, 2004 Missouri voters approved State Constitutional Amendment 3 by nearly 79 percent to “fix the roads and end the road fund diversions”

3 November 10, 2004 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission approves “Smoother, Safer, Sooner” Program with three elements: 1.Improve 2,200 miles of major roads within three years 2.Accelerate 55 projects costing $403 million 3.Tackle 75 new major projects

4 December 10, 2004 Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission adds 57 projects to the STIP worth $159 million launching the Smooth Roads Initiative portion of “Smoother, Safer, Sooner”

5 February 2, 2005 Commission awards 32 Smooth Roads Initiative projects worth $87 million Commission also awards two accelerated projects worth $9.6 million

6 June 21, 2005 First SRI project is completed in Camden County on Route 54 at the Lake of the Ozarks

7 July 1, 2005 The first dollar of Amendment 3 revenues is collected for MoDOT! By then, 123 projects worth $358 million were already under contract

8 What Has Amendment 3 Done for Missouri? 1) Missouri roads are smoother! 78 percent of all major roads are rated “GOOD” 84 percent of all miles traveled in Missouri are now on roads rated “GOOD” Estimated to place us ninth best in U.S.

9 2) Missouri roads are SAFER! 2006: 161 fewer people died than in 2005 2007: 104 fewer people died than in 2006 2008: 35 fewer people have died so far this year as compared to last Fewer crossover crashes Fewer run off the road crashes What Has Amendment 3 Done for Missouri?

10 3) It happened FASTER! SRI delivered one year early 330 of 353 Smoother, Safer, Sooner projects are completed or under construction What Has Amendment 3 Done for Missouri?

13 Commitment to Great Value for Missouri Taxpayers From FY 2002 to FY 2007, MoDOT delivered 2,120 projects worth $5.7 billion – under budget! MoDOT leads the nation in “Practical Design,” producing more than $500 million in savings for additional work on Missouri roads
