2 What is a Book Trailer? According to Wikipedia: “A book trailer is a video advertisement for a book which employs techniques similar to those of movie trailers.” It’s become a business! 3 How to get started… Students work in small groups. Groups select a book. Booktalk a variety of titles. SSYRA Florida Teens Read Students keep Reading logs.Reading logs

4 Choices to make… Software iMovie MovieMaker PowerPoint Still images, live action, or combination Audio Background music, sound effects Narration

5 Groups meet to… Assign tasks. Decide key scenes that will spark interest and convey main idea/mood. Plan, plan, plan. Create a storyboard, script. Gather pictures, video clips, drawings, background music, sound effects.

6 The Basics Make it short (1-2 minutes). Start with a conflict to grab the viewer’s attention. Introduce main character(s) and setting. Show an important scene that occurs early in the story. Show a potential antagonist. Show another important scene. (Keep scenes short) Show a series of quick, action or tense scenes that focus on the rising action. Decide on a closing scene – but don’t reveal the ending!

7 Reminders… Focus on the main character’s problem or goal. Introduce the antagonist or obstacle to this goal. Create a series of scenes that quickly show the story without telling too much. End with a “cliffhanger.” Do NOT give away the ending. Do NOT summarize the story.

8 Create a MOOD… Use intriguing images. Use background music, sound effects. www.soundzabound.com www.freeplaymusic.com The closing scene should reinforce the mood and make an impression on the viewer.

9 Be sure to include… Title of the book and the author’s name Correct spelling, capitalization; underline or italicize the title Credits at the end – Follow the copyright guidelines!copyright guidelines!
