Planning Phase 5 Questions - 5 marks each: – Audience – Internal Institutions – External Institutions – Narrative – Representation

Planning Phase Questions focus on research, and how it impacts on your trailer You get 1 mark for particular research findings, and then further marks for showing how they affected your planning. You must show a direct link between the research finding and your decisions

Planning Phase – question 1 Audience: Look at general audience research for teen horroraudience research – Explain how this has affected your choices in your trailer Look at specific audience research (your own / by others in the class) – Explain how this has affected your choices in your trailer (e.g. Of location, setting, sub-genre etc.)

Planning Phase – Question 2 Internal Institutions These are the factors that will directly affect your trailer as you are making it. They include: – Budget – Equipment – Time – Access to Locations Pick at least two, explain them fully, and give a clear explanation of how they have affected your choices

STAGE 3:INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH INTERNAL FACTOR EFFECT ON YOUR IDEAS/PLANS EQUIPMENTiPads with iMovie; School’s cameras; Macs with iMovie software; Adobe Premiere Pro software; Garage Band software for music TIME3 hours per week in class; after school by arrangement with teacher SCHOOL No disturbance to lessons; prelims; no filming off school grounds PEOPLEMembers of Media class as actors, camera operators etc. Rota system for filming

Planning Phase – Question 3 External Institutions These are external factors that will affect your film. They include: – Copyright Law – Health and Safety Law – BBFC certification Pick two, explain them fully and say exactly how they have affected your plans for your trailer

Planning Phase – Question 4 This asks you to comment on how the trailers you watched used narrative structure and codes. You need to watch the trailers again, and use your notes to write – Detailed accounts of how two of the trailers show the equilibrium and disequilibrium phases of the Todorovian narrative structure – Detailed descriptions of how these two trailers use enigmas to attract their audience – Explain how you are going to use these narrative elements in your trailer

Planning Phase – Question 5 This asks you to comment on how the trailers you watched represented their characters, especially heroes and villains. You need to watch the trailers again, and use your notes to write – Detailed accounts of how two of the trailers show their heroes – how old are they, are they male or female, how do they dress, how do they act etc. – Detailed descriptions of how these two trailers show their villains – how do they make them seem scary, how much do we see of them, what music or sound is used to suggest they are frightening / dangerous. – Explain how you are going to use these representations to help you construct the hero(s) and villain(s) of your trailer
