2. (2 seconds) the trailer opens with a close up of a girl who is laying side ways and she is putting a record on. We then hear a ticking noise and cheerful music starts playing. This conforms the idea of Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as everything is ok and happy music is playing. The lighting is low key this conforms the idea of Levi Strauss’s codes of binary oppositions light vs. dark. There is only one character, and the ethnicity that is being represented is a young white girl.

3. (7 seconds) this clip shows an extreme long shot of Louisiana this again conforms Todorov’s theory of equilibrium and the audience wonder what is going to happen next, the happy cheerful music is still playing. (8seconds) it shows a house where no one lives and the door is banging open while the cheerful music is playing. This conforms the idea of Barthes's theory codes of enigma as there is a house where nobody lives this is a typical horror convention because mainly in horror films they always use a setting where they is a haunted house.

4. (11 seconds) there is a close up of a girl pulling up in front of the house and saying “oh my god”. While the cheerful music continues to play, there is still only one character, the age that is being represented is a young girl aged 19-25 she gets out of the car and goes into the house. 14 seconds into the trailer there is a mid shot of three people the girl, a man and an old women. The music is till playing but there is a voice over of the man talking. This conforms Levi Strauss's theory of binary oppositions male vs. female. The setting is in a back garden and the man and girl are dressed in black but the old lady is dressed in a printed top. The ethnicity that is being represented is white people and the age that is being represented is an old women with a middle aged man and a young girl.

5. 18(seconds) it shows a man in a mid shot leaning against a dark background while the other guy is explaining something to the girl in a voice over about a who the old woman is and how she has helped the old man as he cannot speak. The setting is all dark. This conforms Levi Strauss’s theory of light vs. dark and male vs. female plus Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as the story is building up. (22 seconds) the voice over explains how he had a stroke a month ago. It then shows a close up of his face of what he looked like before his stroke but in the previous clip it showed how he looked now he is ill. It then cuts to a house showing an attic window. The house looks isolated as the trees cover the attic window this is a typical convention of a horror genre and it conforms with Levi Strauss's theory of dark vs. light.

6. 23 seconds - it shows a long shot of a man sitting in a room with lots of candles around him it looks very isolated and music is still playing but it has changed to a slightly dramatic note. This again conforms to Barthes's theory of codes as the audience wonder why he is sitting alone. 25 seconds - It then cuts to the old lady holding a cigarette she is talking to the young girl and says “take good care of my husband” It conforms the idea of Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as there is disruption now and the audience know something is going to happen.

7. 29 seconds into the trailer some new music which sounds tense it then shows a mid shot of a doll’s head this conforms the idea of Barthes’ codes as the little doll looks scary and its showing enigma as the audience wonder what is going to happen plus there is an old lady’s voice over it also includes a credit of who has written the film. 34 seconds into the trailer it shows a close up of the old lady’s hand holding a key she is explaining to the young girl that the owner of the house made a skeleton key this conforms to Barthes’ codes as its showing iconography of a key and the setting is all dark which is Levi Strauss's theory of binary oppositions. The next scene then shows a point of view shot showing someone may be spying on her it conforms the idea of Barth’s theory of codes as it shows enigma it also conforms to Levi Strauss’s of dark vs. light. The target audience for this is male and female 15+.

8. 38 seconds - it shows a close up of the girl trying to open a door as the old lady said to her that the key opens every door. The generic elements of this is the lighting is low key. The girl being alone in a house is a typical genre convention for a horror film as she is left alone in the house trying to find her way. Levi Strauss's theory of binary oppositions conforms to this as there is light vs. dark. The next scene then shows a mid shot of a girl looking scared as someone has tried opening the door. She is holding a torch this shows iconography and Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions conforms as there is light vs. dark. 44 seconds in there a voice over and the girl says her key does not open any of the doors it then cuts to a two shot of the old lady and a girl the old lady then says to the girl “that was their room” it cuts again showing an old family photo of the people who used to live there. The old lady continues to do voice over and explain to the girl that the family were into voodoo.

9. 49 seconds - there is a close up of someone’s hair being cut this conforms to Barth’s codes of enigma as the audience are wondering who’s hair is being cut. Moreover it conforms to Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions of dark vs. light as the scissors are light and the background is all dark. 51 seconds - there is a high angle shot of the girl walking up a spiralled staircase with a paper in her hand shouting “do you know what voodoo is? Its magic” the audience can identify with this as if she is asking them the question. No one is there and with her being alone in the house we know something bad is going to happen.

10. 52 seconds - there is a two shot and the ethnicity being represented is a black girl who says to the young white girl “leave her alone” there is Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions of dark vs. light as the background is dark and the setting looks as though they are in a car. 57 seconds - some creepy music being played and it shows a close up of a monkey’s face with long hair which shows iconography that this film is a horror genre this goes with Levi Strauss’ s theory of dark vs. light. The next scene then shows an open book with something to do with voodoo or black magic. This conforms to Barthes’ theory of codes as it makes the audience wonder what is going to happen or who is going to be cursed.

11. 1:00 - the trailer it shows a mid shot of the old women saying to the young girl “no you haven’t seen anything” this shows that the old lady is hiding something when the girl tries to tell her what she as seen there is Levi Strauss’s theory of dark vs. light. 1:05 - there is a voice over of the lady saying to the girl “you see something in mirrors” the is then an over the shoulder shot showing the girl looking into the mirror to see her reflection. The audience would be able to identify with this as they can see what she sees in the mirror if what the old lady is saying is true.

12. 1:07- there is a two shot of the girl and the old lady the girl then says “you can’t expect me to see ghosts in your mirrors” the genders that are being represented is female. 1:10 – there is a two shot of the girl showing the old man a mirror while he is laying in a bath. He then looks into the mirror and it cuts to a mid shot of the old man and he must be cursed as he can see something and starts to shake and move side to side as if he is in pain and when it comes to 1:13 he flicks the mirror on to the floor the music ends and everything goes black this conforms to Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as something dramatic event as occurred.

13. 1:16-this conforms to the idea of Todorov’s theory as a new equilibrium starts showing a close up of the old women saying “what ever they did to him I’m not going to let them do it to me” this shows us that the man must be possessed and the old lady is warning the girl. This shows Barthes’ theory of codes of enigma as the audience will want to know what is going to happen next. 1:20 – creepy music then starts and there is a voice over of the girl asking if some dust has worked. It then shows an over the shoulder shot of a black woman giving the girl some advice on black magic and telling the girl what has happened and what she should do to stop any evil spirits coming in. This is a common thing in horror films where there is a girl who ends up asking advice from somebody who knows about black magic and evil spirits. The ethnicity that is being represented is a black woman and a white girl.

14. 1:25 – there is a two shot and the old man is asking for help the young girl then asks him if he is afraid of telling anyone Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions conforms this clip as there is dark vs. light and male vs. female. The man is also in pain. It then cuts to a long shot of the door which then stats banging and again Levi’s code of binary oppositions conforms to this as there is light vs. dark and there is low key lighting. 1:28 – it shows a close up of the girl pouring sand near the door, as the black woman is telling her to do this to find out who the enemies are. This conforms to Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions dark vs. light. 1:32- the music then cuts out and it shows a close up of the old lady who has not crossed the line. This shows she must be the enemy and this conforms to Vladimir Propp’s theory of folk tales as the old lady is the villain, the young girl is the hero trying to solve everything and the black women is the helper helping the young girl. The gender being represented is female and this will trailer will have a target audience of girls mainly as there is female characters.

15. 1:35 – the record we seen at the start of the trailer starts playing again and this time the girl is far away we can see her in the background looking sacred. This is typical convention for a horror genre as the girl is on her own, it also conforms the idea of Barthes’ codes of enigma as the audience wonder if a ghost of spirit has put the record on. 1:42 – shows a mid shot of a girl with a scared expression on her face. There is also a voice over of her saying “it can’t hurt you if you don’t believe I it” this shows she is not scared. Before the girls voice over another voice over was playing suggesting that she leaves the house.

16. 1:47- shows a high angle shot of the girl in bed with candles lit round her she looks distressed this is common is most horror films when the girl is alone in bed and having a nightmare. This conforms to Barthes’ theory of enigma as the audience will want to know what is going to happen to her next. 1:52 – this clip shows someone calling her name lots of different things are happening and different people are calling her name. the young girl says “I don’t believe!” this conforms to Todorov’s theory of equilibrium as there is a recognition that a disorder as occurred.

17. 1:55 – shows a close up of the old man who rises from the bed Levi Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions conforms as there is light vs. dark. We can hear a banging noise this shows the tension building. 2:01 – this scene shows a credit of the name of the film while the girl says “it’s real it’s all real” this is almost as if she is talking to us. 1:57 – shows a mid shot of the girl who shouts “I don’t believe repeatedly” while she is holding wand in her hand trying to fight the enemy, it then cuts to her in a close up and someone grabs her face. She then lets out a cry and screams while there is dramatic music playing. 2:03 – it then shows a close up of the girl on the phone trying to talk to someone this shows iconography as she is on the phone and this is one of the conventions in a horror genre the girl being alone in the house on the phone trying to get help. It also conforms the idea of Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions of light vs. dark.

18. 2:07- it shows a close up of the girl her phone cuts off and she crawls to the door to see if the wire is there she pulls it out and it has been cut off she then cries for help and the door closes leaving her in the room by herself, we then hear someone locking her away in the attic with the key and the setting is low key we can only just see her face. This conforms the idea of Strauss’s theory of binary oppositions of light vs. dark. 2:10-this clip then shows the word “EVIL” which then changes into “ you will believe” the audience will be able to identify with this as it’s aiming it at us so when we watch it we will believe everything is real in the film. 2:15- The ticking sound from the record we hear at the beginning is playing again but with out the cheerful music. It then shows a credit of who is in the film, the production companies logos and the director.
