5. PROCEDURES PART I – ONION CELL PART I – ONION CELL 1. Peel a THIN piece of onion (the skin) and place in the center of the glass slide. 2. Add 1 or 2 drops of IODINE to the onion peel and place cover slip on top 3. Examine the onion slide UNDER LOW POWER (Medium size lens); Draw what the cell looks like AND label ALL organelles you can identify 4. Examine onion cell under HIGH Power; Draw what the cell looks like AND label ALL organelles you can identify

6. Part 2: Examining Cheek Cells Part 2: Examining Cheek Cells 1. Choose 1 person in your group to scrape the inside of their cheek using a flat toothpick 2. Rub toothpick over the slide and PLACE 1 drop of METHYLENE BLUE SOLUTION over your cheek cells and cover with cover slip 3. Follow steps 3 & 4 as listed from the onion lab for the drawing the cheek cell.
