2 Major Cities France’s capital is Paris. Other well known major cities include Bordeaux, Marseille and Lyon.

3 Paris Paris Paris is famous for its attractions like the Eiffel Tower, and its cafes and also the scenery. It is known as “The City of Light”. In 2013 more tourists visited France than any other country in the world million people traveled there that year.

4 La Tour Eiffel The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. Built in 1889, it has become both a global icon of France and one of the most recognizable structures in the world. The tower is the tallest building in Paris and the most-visited paid monument in the world. also known as La dame de fer (the iron lady)

5 Louvre Museum This is one of the world’s most famous art museums. Here, they hold many famous art pieces including the Mona Lisa.

6 Notre Dame de Paris French for Our Lady of Paris
It is a Gothic, Catholic cathedral located in Paris. It is widely considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture in France and in Europe.

7 The Tour de France Every summer in France, thousands of professional bike riders enter in the Tour de France. This race is a 3,600 kilometer, or about 2,300 mile, bike race. It is known all over the world. Many tourists come from all over to watch and participate in this race.

8 The Beaches in France Tourists also go to France to visit the beaches along the Mediterranean. These are some pictures of what some look like.

9 Monet’s Garden Another famous place in France is Monet’s Garden. It is where the famous painter Claude Monet grew up. It is right outside of Paris, France and where he painted many of his famous pieces.

10 Northern Vineyards in France
The Northern part of France is also known for its vineyards. Many tourists come to see them and experience the work that goes on there.

11 The Statue of Liberty The French have a statue of liberty right outside of Paris. It is just like the one they gave to the US in 1886.

12 The French Alps Tourists also go to France to ski the French alps. The Alps in France are near its border with Italy.

13 Champs Elysees The Champs Elysees is a big arch in Paris. It is about 6,000 feet tall. It is known as one of the most beautiful arches in France.

14 LIFESTYLE CHEEK KISSING
French people cheek kiss to greet each others between family and friends, even between men. The number of kisses varies according to the region, from 1 to 4 (e.g. Paris and most of the North), and occasionally up to 5 in Corsica. CHEEK KISSING

15 LANGUAGE French used to be the language of the nobility and diplomacy all across Europe and in the Ottoman Empire. It was the world’s first real international language until English replaced it in the mid-20th century. French is still the official language of 30 countries worldwide.

16 French Food The French are also famous for their cuisine. The French are known for their chocolates, cheeses and breads like croissants.

17 FOOD & DRINKS In France: There are over 300 kinds of French cheeses.
Crêpes originated from Brittany (western France) and is one of the most popular foods in Europe. Wine has been made in France since Roman times. In 2004, the country produced 56.6 millions hectoliters of wine.
