What is the Mitochondria? Mitochondria is an organelle that works as a battery for the cell. Mitochondria takes in nutrients, breaks them down, and creates energy for the cell.

Functions The main function of the mitochondrion is the production of energy, in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Other functions of mitochondria are related to the cell type in which they are found.

Mitochondrial Disease There are more than 40 known types of diseases. However they are very rare because they are genetic diseases.
