The Northeast the New England states -Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut the Mid-Atlantic States - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Dellaware, Maryland

New England - geography land unsuitable for farming, rocky fertile soil was carried away with glaciers broad valleys rolling hills, a few low mountain ranges- part of the Appalachian Mountains.

Mid Atlantic region - geogrphy The Coastal Plain (low land stretching along the Atlantic Ocean) rich soil suitable for growing crops several mountain ranges : the Allegheny Mountains, the Pocono Mountains, the Adirondacks and the Catskills

People and culture New Englanders are known for their hard work, thrift and ingenuity. the Amish live in Pennsylvania - have an agricultural economy - make most of the things that they need - do not use electricity or telephones in their homes, or use cars or tractors. They travel by horse and buggy

Industry New York and Pennsylvania - centers of heavy industry, iron, glass and steel. New York - financial capital. Other industries - e.g. drug manufacturing, communications New England - lobsters, fishing, shipbuilding Maine has lots of forests, logging is a major industry Vermont - maple syrup dairy cows large granite quarries

Places of interest, cities famous colleges : Harvard, Yale, Brown, and Princeton. beautiful scenery Broadway, in Manhattan, New York, is one of the world's most famous theatre districts. Philadelphia's Historical Park preserves the birthplace of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution beautiful coastal villages and beaches such as Martha's Vineyard and Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
