Cookers normally consist of three different parts: –Hob – 4 burners of various size –Grill – eye or waist level. –Oven – glass panelled door. Heated by elements at the sides or back or a gas burner.

MODERN FEATURES Automatic timer – preset to switch on and off. Thermostat - works by keeping the temperature constant. Dual grill/ring – only heats half of the grill or ring depending on how much is necessary. This is very energy efficient. Fan oven – this circulates the heat around the whole oven, therefore ensuring that all food in the oven cooks evenly. Ceramic hob – this is heat resistant glass sheeting over the plates.

Self cleaning oven – lining in oven burns off food particles when the oven is set to a high temperature. Halogen rings- heat up instantly and are easy to control. Split level cookers- were very popular a few years ago but now most grills are between the hob and the oven, grills can also be combined within the oven unit. Push button ignition - on gas ovens. MODERN FEATURES

CARE OF THE COOKER Wipe up all spills immediately. Wash the grill after use. Wipe out the area of the oven after use. Don’t drag saucepans as they will scratch the surface of the hob- especially ceramic hobs. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaning agents. Use special cleaner for ceramic hobs.

Protect hands. Make sure the oven is switched off. Remove all loose parts in the oven and on the hob and wash with hot soapy water. After you have washed the cooker wipe it with a damp cloth and dry. Wash the outside in the same way as the inside. Polish. CLEANING THE COOKER
