Accident statistics Safety | Communication | Quality | Integrity | TeamSpirit | Caring | Trust | Pride Looking at our Health and Safety statistics up to the end of May 2014 the following trends are evident: Manual handling represents 28% of our minor injury circumstances year to date The 2 RIDDOR injuries reported so far this year are related to manual handling manhole covers:-  Lancaster UID – pulled shoulder whilst lifting cover  Chamberlayne Road – fracture to toe after dropping manhole cover and frame on foot

If any of these tasks are not carried out appropriately there is a risk of injury.

Manual Handling assessment Safety | Communication | Quality | Integrity | TeamSpirit | Caring | Trust | Pride Wherever it is practicable, mechanical lifting aids should be used to transport goods to their destination. Where manual handling is the only option, conduct a manual handling assessment (CF627-50) for all activities and cross reference in RA/MS documents (Please refer to CPR627 Manual Handling procedure)

10. ENVIRONMENT Safety | Communication | Quality | Integrity | TeamSpirit | Caring | Trust | Pride Within the environment is/are there: Space constraints Uneven ground Slippery surfaces Unstable flooring Difference in ground levels Conditions – hot, cold or humid

Is there an absence of the correct/suitable PPE being worn? Always look out for the “Line of Fire” – are you in a position of danger?
