BADMINTON First called, POONA, in 1873 the name was changed to badminton. Equipment- Racquet, birdie, net, and court.

History Poona was played without a net or a racquet. The object of the game was to use feet and keep the birdie in the air. Now, the object is to volley the birdie over the net and keep the birdie from landing on the floor. Over 150 nations compete for the Thomas Cup

How to Play Game consist of 15 or 21 points If the birdie hits the net on the serve but is otherwise good it is still a legal serve It is illegal for a player to hold up the racquet to block a return at the net Service is underhand and must be served from the right back corner. Score only if your team has served.

Skills Serve- underhand only, drop-hit Forehand-like shaking hands, “V”, head of racquet above waist, and use hinge wrist action. BELOW-STEP-DROP-FOLLOW Backhand-same grip, head of racquet above waist, * keep face of racquet flat toward net. GRIP-RACQUET-STEP- FOLLOW

PICKLEBALL Invented in 1965 by two United State Senators- Bell and Pritchard. First like badminton but then changed: »1. bounce added,and »2. net lowered.

Pickle ball vs. Badminton Server start- – pick= one foot in, one foot out –Badminton=both feet in Double Bounce- –pick=After the serve the ball must bounce before it can be returned then the ball must bounce again before the serving side can return it. –Badminton= cannot bounce. No Volley Zone- – pick=7ft from the net you cannot hit the ball –Badminton= always volley

How To Play First team to score 11 points wins. Only serving team can score. Equipment= net, wooden paddle, wiffle ball.

Skills Serve- bounce ball then hit, BELOW- BOUNCE-STEP-HIT (under/even) Forehand- use more of a “tennis swing” not baseball, BELOW/EVEN-STEP- FOLLOWTHROUGH Backhand- same swing as above, BELOW/EVEN-STEP-FOLLOW
