Goals of this course Give students a broader, more realistic view of the discipline of computer science as they decide on a major, pursue further computer science courses, or enter society. In other words, get a sense of what computer science is all about.

Software Goals Programming is hard! Applications are just tools, not really computer science Software Development requires logic, and planning

Hardware Goals Computers are constantly changing. Computers are complex machines. Computers use binary to represent everything!

Theory Goals Algorithms– even though computers are getting faster, if we can come up with a better algorithm for something, well, that’s even better! Computability - there are things that a computer can not do!

Artificial Intelligence Goals Intelligence is hard to define. The things that are “easy” for a human to do can be hard for a computer to do - and vice versa! We don’t know if a computer will ever be able to really think!

Ethics and Privacy Goals Regardless of your field, we need to think about how what we do affects others. Privacy is a big issue in our life today.
