3 Clothing & Individual Equipment Vision A Focused Effort on The Soldier as a System To remain the most relevant capabilities based Product Management Office in the Army by creating a systemic capability to continuously equip the Army’s single most vital weapon system (the Soldier) with the right Clothing and Individual Equipment at the right time and at the right cost. We will accomplish this by optimizing and integrating existing governmental technological, logistical, and acquisition expertise and effectively linking it to domestic industrial capability.

9 Army Combat Uniform Army Requisitions: - Unit fielding requisitions remain on schedule - AAFES cash sales began Jan 06 - Army National Guard fielding began Mar 06 - Army Reserve requisitions begin in FY07 through KYLOC - The mandatory possession date is May 2008 Hook and Loop Tape Fastener: - Revised Specification A-A-55126B has been completed and uploaded to ASSIST - Incorporates Colorfastness, Shade Consistency, Durability, Extruded Hook, Selvage and Non-selvage Tapes Design Improvements Under Consideration: - Addition of a Pen Pocket in Front Flap Closure - Cargo pocket flap angled corners and closure - Standardize bartack types and thread size

10 Gen III Status 30 Jun 05 Contract award for field test quantities 31 Jan 06 Completed fielding to 10 th Mtn units deploying to Afghanistan "During Operation Mountain Lion I found myself praying for bad weather, the first time in my military career I was actually begging for a cold front to come through. I knew my Soldiers could handle it and the enemy couldn't. ECWCS allowed my men to out last the enemy on their own terrain. 11 Parachute Update T-11 –Formal Developmental Testing is complete. (249 of 229 jumps) –Operational Testing set to begin in January at Fort Bragg –QPL process begins in November 06 –Fielding is scheduled to begin in mid-2008 MC-6 –Full Rate Production contract awarded April 06 –Spares contract awarded July 06 –Fielding began in April 06

12 Fire Resistant Clothing Strategy Two phased approach: Near term –Identify end items that offer protection from IED burn injuries for all Soldiers Long Term –Integrated systems approach for Aviation and Mounted Soldiers –Leverage emerging technologies that could be utilized for all Soldiers

13 Army Aviation Combat Uniform (A2CU) Improved Combat Vehicle Crewmen (iCVC) FR Advanced Combat Uniform –Testing FR alternatives FROG – will leverage USMC under layer recent effort Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble (FREE) –Skin out layered system similar to Gen III ECWCS –Focused on Mounted and Air Soldier –Working details of acquisition strategy; solicitation expected Oct 06 Fire Resistant Clothing

14 Combat Gloves Currently fielding combat glove as part of RFI. – Solicitation closed; evaluation on-going –Contract award anticipated 1 st quarter 07. New effort forthcoming for a cold weather version –Design TBD: one glove or shell and liner are possibilities –Solicitation will be executed through Aberdeen as part of the FREE effort
