(Click here to go to our website) Call to Order – 1 st Vice President Charlie Osborne called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Invocation – Dave Hunter: We are Thy children, dear Lord, and glad to be. We thank Thee for this food, and for Thy tender care. Forgive us when we stray from Thy pathways, and grant us Thy peace. Amen. Vittles – salad and toppings, turkey roll-up, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, rolls with butter, and German chocolate cake.

Birthdays - None. Lions Report: There was no report.

Guests – Lou Liay.

PDG Richard King brought a large supply of sweet corn, which was contributed by President Weldon Garrelts. Lions were encouraged to help themselves to the corn (a generous contribution was suggested).

Lottery - The Lions Lottery winner was Charlie Osborne. Lion Charlie now is $10 richer (less what the Tailtwister will take later).

Past President David Lin announced that a barbecue picnic will take place on August 17 in Burwash Park (across the street from the Winsor of Savoy). There will be no charge for the event. The barbecue will be provided by Lion Pedro Heller.

David Lin reported that about 12 Lions and others helped with the work project last Saturday at the Home for Women in Transition.

125 bags of mulch were spread over the area. Since the work took only about 45 minutes (far short of the expected several hours), another 25 bags were obtained and spread.

Lion Sam McGrew power washed the house.

Sam McGrew introduced our speakers, Jeff Goldberg and Charlie Finn,

Jeff Goldberg spoke about the upcoming Opening Night

at the Virginia Theatre.

The fund raiser, scheduled for August 23,

will feature the premiere performance

of the one act play (written by Charlie Finn) “The Galloping Ghost: Red Grange Visits the Virginia”.

Also appearing during the evening will be the senior class of the 2013 U of I football team.

Jim Turpin will emcee the event and Stevie Jay will participate in the Grange play.

Jeff also mentioned the extensive remodeling done at the Virginia,

the Roger Ebert Film Festival,

and the Virginia’s famous Wurlitzer organ.

Then Jeff invited our questions.

Frank Duff had one,

Which Jeff answered handily, but for the life of me, I can’t remember what it was…

Tailtwister Lion Tom Yaxley (assisted by Bucket Carrier Lion Sam McGrew),

fined Lion Charlie Osborne for having won the Lottery,

Mentioned that he had lost a glove while working at the Home for Women in Transition, then gone back and found it. Eureka!

Then he fined all those Lions who did not help with the work project at the Home for Women in Transition (those Lions were so ashamed).

See the guilty looks?

And then he read another lo-o-o-o-o-o-ong joke. But it was very FUNNY, mind you!!!
