2. Murder: Intentionally killing another person

3. 1 st Degree Murder – Involves one on one of the following circumstances: – Killing after making a detailed plan to kill – Killing in an especially viscous way such as by torture, or killing while committing another crime. Example : Dan and Connie rob Victor’s liquor store, but as they are fleeing, Victor shoots and kills Dan. Under the felony murder rule, Connie can be charged with first degree murder, for Dan’s death.

4. 2 nd Degree Murder – Involves one of the following circumstances: - An intentional killing that is not premeditated or planned, nor committed in a reasonable “heat of passion” - A killing caused by dangerous conduct and the offender’s obvious lack of concern for human life.

5. Manslaughter : the unlawful killing of a human being without malice or premeditation, either express or implied; distinguished from murder which requires malicious intent Voluntary Manslaughter- happens when someone kills another while in a state of distress, and with out prior planning. Example: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. In the heat of the moment, Dan picks up a golf club from next to the bed and strikes Victor in the head, killing him instantly.

6. Involuntary Manslaughter : - usually refers to an unintentional killing that results from recklessness or criminal negligence, or from an unlawful act that is a misdemeanor or low-level felony. Example: Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. Distraught, Dan heads to a local bar to drown his sorrows. After having five drinks, Dan jumps into his car and drives down the street at twice the posted speed limit, accidentally hitting and killing a pedestrian.

7. Assault: is an attempt to commit battery. – Example: act of intentionally placing a person in apprehension of a harmful or offensive contact with his or her person. Battery- is the unlawful touching of another person. – Example: a volitional act that results in a harmful or offensive contact with another person and is committed for the purpose of causing a harmful or offensive contact

8. Kidnapping: unlawful removal or restraint of another person against his or her will. Example: Tiger Kidnapping - is taking a hostage to make a loved one or associate of the victim do something. Example2: Bride Kidnapping - is a term often applied loosely, to include any bride abducted against the will of her parents, even if she is willing to marry the abductor. It still is traditional amongst certain nomadic peoples of Central Asia.

9. Sex Offences: involving one person forcing another to have sexual intercourse. Statutory rape – sexual intercourse with a minor without force. PA laws on consent: Pennsylvania statutory rape laws define the age of consent as 16. Therefore, if you have sexual intercourse with a partner who is 15 years old or younger, and you are at least four years older than your partner, you are committing statutory rape and you can be charged with a crime.

10. Date Rape: is an assault or attempted assault by usually a new acquaintance involving sexual intercourse without mutual consent. Example: Sometimes a female isn't sure in her own mind whether or not she does in fact want sex at all. She may decide to make up her mind as the evening wears on. If at some stage she changes her mind and says no, which we are entitled to do, the man may well feel cheated or feel he has been teased, and he decides that she will get what she deserves regardless, and so rapes her. Domestic violence: Reckless form of physical or mental harm in a family or household.

11. Domestic Violence: Approximately 95% of the victims of domestic violence are women. Every 9 seconds, a woman is battered. More than 50% of all women will experience some form of violence from their spouses during marriage, more than 1/3 are battered repeatedly every year. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages 15 and 44 in the United States; more than car accidents, muggings, and rapes combined. 50% of all homeless women and children in this country are fleeing domestic violence. Domestic violence ranks as one of the nation's most expensive health problems. There are nearly 3 times as many animal shelters in the U.S. as there are shelters for battered women and their children.
