4 try Why don’t you try putting the envelope in water (we do it and see what happens) I try to get a taxi, but I couldn’t. (we make an effort to do it)

5 stop When the teacher came in, the students stopped talking. (we no longer do it) On the way, he stopped to buy a newspaper. (we stop what we are doing so that we can do something else)

6 regret I didn’t mean to hurt her. I regret shouting at her. (we feel sorry for what we have done) I regret to say I won’t be able to come to the party tomorrow. (we are sorry for what we have to do now)

(before we do something as a polite way of excusing ourselves) I am sorry to hear that your brother had an accident yesterday. (to express sympathy for somebody)

10 interested I am very interested in walking in the rain. (we are eager to do it) Tell me your plan. I am interested to hear about it. (we want to find out more)
