7. Building the Canal Tunnel between Folkstone, England and Coquelles, France was the biggest European engineering project in history.

8. The Tunnel was first suggested in 1802 but only in the 1880s a start was made. But two world wars made the Tunnel dangerous for Britain and the country preferred to be safe from the Europe.

9. The final building of the tunnel began in 1987. The “Channel”, as it is commonly known, was opened on 6 May 1994.
