3. Mission of the Committee
The committee was established in 1986 to support the staff of the Registrar General by insuring well-prepared and documented applications and supplemental applications.
The Volunteer Genealogist Committee is comprised of three parts:
the Volunteer Genealogist
the Volunteer Field Genealogist
the Genealogy Consultant.
Volunteer Genealogists, Volunteer Field Genealogists, and Genealogy Consultants are Daughters who complete a NSDAR Genealogy Training, Volunteer Field Workshop, or Genealogical Educational Program I and II. Their goal is:
to disseminate information regarding current standards of verification for completed applications/supplementals to ensure speedy approval.
to conduct VFG workshops in their local areas with registrars, Membership Committee chairmen, lineage researchers, and prospective members.
to establish new patriots and new children of existing patriots, thereby increasing membership
to assist prospective members with research
Volunteer Genealogists may earn credit and eligibility to purchase NSDAR pins.

4. Challenging All Daughters, All Chapters, and All States
Encourage members to complete the NSDAR online Genealogy Education Program (courses GEP I and II) to obtain new information and update current standards for preparing application and supplemental papers.
Extend your DAR hand in friendship and sponsor a chapter or state Traveling Volunteer Field Genealogy Workshop for prospective members and members wanting to complete supplemental applications.
Plan a Paper Party to assist prospective members to complete applications or members to complete supplementals of new patriots and new children of existing patriots.
NEW Volunteer Genealogists Ruling, April 2010:
Commit your time and expertise to a designated challenged chapter assignment (not your own chapter) to assist with prospective member application completion and mentoring of chapter officers.
Chapters, ask your State Regent or state Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission for an assigned Volunteer Genealogist. Use an assigned designated Chapter Volunteer Genealogist.
Serve your state and National Society and volunteer to become a Volunteer Genealogist Mentor for chapters in your area or district.

8. Volunteer Field Genealogists (VFG) Volunteer Field Genealogists Pin
All DAR members who have completed the 2-day Volunteer Field Workshop in the states, the Genealogy Consultant Training in DC, or the Genealogy Educational Program, GEP I and GEP II, are Volunteer Field Genealogists.
These courses, which are created and maintained by NSDAR genealogists, provide the proper completion and documentation standards required by the DAR for the verification of applications. Graduates of these classes may then share this information by leading workshops at the local level. Completion of ten workshops, each with a minimum of five attendees, establishes eligibility for the Volunteer Field Genealogists pin. Workshops may be conducted by two VFGs.
VFGs, in lieu of workshops, may establish eligibility for the Volunteer Field Genealogists pin by being named member for member on 10 verified applications as an assigned Volunteer Genie for a designated chapter. The Volunteer Field Genealogist is assigned to the chapter by the State Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission or State Regent. The designated chapter cannot be the home chapter of the Volunteer Field Genealogist.
Volunteer Field Genealogists Pin
Graduates of the Volunteer Field Genealogist workshops in the states, the Genealogist Consultant Course in DC, or completion of GEP I and GEP II may earn credit for eligibility for this pin by conducting 10 workshops in the field for a minimum of five participants. The purpose of this workshop is to train others in the proper preparation and documentation of new membership and supplemental papers using current standards established by the NSDAR Genealogy Department. The workshop may be held for anyone. In lieu of workshops, the VFG and GC may earn credit for pin eligibility as member for member on ten applications for an assigned designated chapter (not your own chapter). The assignment is made by the State Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission or State Regent.

9. Become a DAR Genealogy Consultant (GC) DAR Genealogy Consultant Pin
Genealogy Consultants have completed the 4-day training given at NSDAR Headquarters, or the Genealogy Education Program (GEP) GEP I – GEP II – GEP III (classes to be announced).
Attendance at this class qualifies the Genealogy Consultant to conduct workshops in conjunction with the Volunteer Field Genealogists and to be assigned to designated chapters. GCs are eligible to receive credit toward the Volunteer Field Genealogists pin under the same requirements. The GC may earn the Volunteer Genealogists pin by establishing ten new patriots or new children for established patriots.
Completion of the Genealogy Consultant Training (4-day or GEP I, II, III) qualifies the member to conduct local Volunteer Field Genealogy workshops and to be assigned to designated chapters (not their own) by the Chapter Development and Revitalization Commission. GCs are eligible to receive credit toward the Volunteer Field Genealogists pin under the same requirements. The GC may earn the Volunteer Genealogists pin by establishing ten new patriots or new children for established patriots.
DAR Genealogy Consultant Pin
A member qualifies for this pin upon successful completion of the training course at National Headquarters or completion of NSDAR courses: GEP I, GEP II and GEP III.
